Default d15b2 ef sedan. . . no start

gonna need some help with this one guys. . . just took out my old motor, burned up the rings in old motor, for a fresh long block. wiring and all remains same, bone stock d15b2. old motor was turning with no compression on #3, and timing jumped 2 teeth. . . bad bad bad. . . .now I am done wiht the motor install and have attempted to start. . . Nothing. . .couple of concerns. . .I know my diz is not 180 off. but it was very difficult to get to go on. and it is not indexed(?) with a timing light? is there some zero starting point that I need to put the diz at to get a rough start and then do the spark timing?

as far as the install goes, I am to the point I would like to start the car to make sure I can move on. Header is installed, no O2 reading. I do have fuel, can smell it. The car when turning over I can hear it cycle 4-5 times and then there is a power interruption, so to speak. and a "Puft" from the intake. I am at a loss. . . checked timing before installation and timing is dead on.

also, as a note, this was done in a slight drizzle. . .is it possible that lil bit of moisture in the distributor could be killing my spark?

thanks in adv

justin

If you think it is your distributor and are not reusing the one from your other motor, try the the distributor from the blown one and see if that changes anything. Also check all your grounds and make sure you have a good connection on each.

both are wet and i am reusing the one from the old motor. . . its a MSD setup. new rotor and new plugs, wires. if i missed a ground point, not likely, will this cause my headaches?

Now if I am using the MSD Distributor cap. . . .am I able to change out the rotor with a different one (stock) the distributor caps are the same size. . . the rotors look the same. . . . . ? ? ? ? I want to rule out all causes, before the impulse shopper in me goes out and redoes the whole ignition system, i just want to get my $200 car running. . .

You need 1)fuel, 2)spark 3)compression. You obvoiusly have fuel. Did you actually check if you have spark? Pull a plug, put the wire on the plug, and hold the plug against something grounded, like a valve cover nut. If there is spark, and you believe your timing to be on, do you have compression? If you flooded the *** out of it and washed the cylinders to the point of having no compression, it's not gonna start. Pour a bottle cap of motor oil down each cylinder and try again.

If you have the fuel and spark, and after putting oil down the cyl's it doesn't work, then somewhere your timing is off.

well this motor has not been turned over in about 3 years. . . did the poor mans compression test. . . turned over by hand and popped the wires out of sockets completely. . . no gauge on them yet, next step. . . gotta dodge the rain for the next week and try to get this done. . . gonna check all three tomorrow if possible then look into legitimate compression test

well i still got no start. . . .the car will stumble, and then die. . . now with a dead battery it is hard to get anything done. . . My question is, if after 10 attempts, should my battery have died? could i possibly be looking at a dead ignition coil? It has an external MSD Coil, so what woltage would i be looking for, in and out. . . need to get this think running

edit: battery was only 9 mos old
