Okay Okay, I have been pondering lately some things in the SFWD class reguarding chassis selection...
I have noticed mainly the class is composed of EG's and DC's... which is great. My question, why isn't there many EK's (coupes especially and hatch's)?
I know in the end and beginning, its money. The EK/EM1(si) and DC are newer, more costly cars compared to an EG, but I still see more than the usual DC's out there running.
Again, the EG is a lighter and cheaper car, so i know why there is soo many.
Is there something about the EK/EM1 that I am missing that it has a disadvantage? I may be wrong. I know Eggum is rocking out hard, so no questioning of her there
By appearance alone, I see the EK is a tad more... edgy/bulky/taller/less aerodynamic (by my eye).
Maybe I am just overlooking this, but seems to be more of an abundance of EGs and DCs out there running.
Any insight would be appreciated. I am just a lover and driver of EM1's and very partial to 99-00 civic coupes and wish I could see more out there doing big things!

there are a i dont think it is a debate, in my case, i have had my car for 8 years. i dont hink people just go look for eg's for a specific reason.
or maybe the ek's are kinda newer and dont want to cut them up.

EGs are some of the older cars out there, they are a dime a dozen. EGs are also lighter than EKs from teh get go, each year or newer generation of car is getting heavier due to the Hoghwat Safety Standards and such becoming more strict and additional saftey features need to be added structurally.
But for the most part I think it is because EGs are older and cheaper for the most part. DCs are abut as common as an EK I think.

99-00 coupes for life

i noticed the same thing a few weeks ago asking myself "why are there no ek's?" i don't think there's a performance reason its just the way it is. i would love to put my motor into an ek cuz i like the body style. i love the red ek hatch from florida, forgot the name.
Could it be a decision between weight vs wheel base length?
I would assume the longer wheel base car's 60 and 330 better? If not, then pick the lightest body and add weight where you want it..

dannnng. straight to the heart!!! welp, i am off this biatch and going to hooters for all you can eat wing and free beer night (our waitress hooks up the brew)
I know that the motor mount design (driver side) on the EK sucks ***. I've had a few car rip the mount right off the car, But I did come up with a easy fix, EG, DC mount with 1/4" plates welded to the frame (just like EG, DC's).

umm, yea the OEM STOCK mount sucks. I dont think that the guys in SFWD use that or ANY stock mount. LOL. They make a nice replacement mount my friend. LOL

well im working on a ek with a k20a2 will see how that goes . just started got the motor all stock for right now about to drop it in next week . had an eg for a few months loved the car but will see how things go with this ek with a k powerplant
We rocked the 99 Si back in 2004. Great car. But it was easier for us to start fresh with the EG that James already had.

We did have a 5 gal. cell in that car, but I think it weighed 22XXlbs with me in it. It had power windows, sunroof, and only 1 seat. It would be no problem getting one down to 2400 with driver.

There was Jason Hunt's coupe, Jason(blown90hatch)'s hatch, and some others. It's a combination of weight, price, and chassis size I think. If it were just weight and price, everybody would be rockin' 86-91 civics and crx's. The EG is the median between the EK and the EF chassis. You get the bigger engine bay, wheelbase, and almost looks of the EK and then you get the price and the weight of the EF.
I'd still rock an EF or EK anyday as well but my new chassis just happened to fall into my grasp by fate. I've never been faster than 115mph in the 1320 with an EG so I wonder if the wheelbase length difference between the EF, EG, and DC really make a huge difference when you're going fast.

Wheelbase has a great affect in how the car will run down the track.
Longer wheelbase = better traction and weight distribution, BUT also = more weight.
It's a trade off you need to take into concideration. If you have the power, put it in a chassis that will handle the power better.
I personally like the DC2. Not just because I have one, but because of the above and the fact that it "seems" more aerodynamic in design. Smoother body lines an all....

we were running an ek hatch for the past few years...same as john posted it was easier for us to start fresh with a new car rather than rip apart the ek.. went with an eg coupe...

ahhhhhh....memories....i haven't seen a picture of that beast in quite some time, i need to see if i can dig up some more old ones to have them printed up
I really think that you see people building cars that they already own, that are their street cars, or have been around their lives for a little bit of time. It is more uncommon that you see someone start fresh with a newly sourced vehicle and purposing building it for the sfwd class so I don't think there is a huge amount of thought put into picking one chassis over another.
And from what you can tell from the class all chassis' have the same opportunity to go fast from Ballard and Hunt's CRXs back in the day, to all the EG's to Penman's Del Sol to the Integra's -- all have the potential, setup is more important than chassis in my opinion
