Building CIVIC EG 1992 for track use
Hello all. I am currently building my CIVIC EG 1992 for track use and have been reading posts on honda-tech for information. Since i am not new to motor racing, i know what i need to upgrade on the rest of the car but would like help in pointing me in the right direction on suspension and brakes. I might mention that i have aquired a JDM B18C Intergra Type-R and will transplant the B18C into the EG. I have access to the bits that came with the clip as well.
This is what i had in mind, kindly give your advice on if i am on the right track:
Suspension:
- Progress Coil overs 450F/600R
- Energy bushing kit
- ITR from sway bar (will this bolt in on the EG??)
- ASR read 23mm brace and swaybar
Brakes: (so much information that i am a bit confused)
- I know i need to change to rear discs, but whats good for roadrace
- I know i need lots of stopping power up front, but limited in size to 11.6" max for the front rotor.

I do not believe the sway bar will bolt in to the eg, unless there is one there already. I know on my 92 cx there is no place to mount one. However, my friend bought a hatch with integra suspension in place, and thus it could use the sway bar.
Energy suspesnion bushings, there are lots of talk about these. Some have issues with wear after a little while, i have had mine for three years and have no issues with mine.
I don't have any sway bar's or braces on my car, i do however have a four point kirkey cage welded in. I don't know if the sway bars would help me, i have tein coil over suspension, energy suspension bushings, and full camber kit, which you should def. get if you don't have that yet.
Brakes, i've heard people say there is no need to upgrade to rear disc, however it is cheap to do nowadays. I did. I use the stock front brakes, with upgraded pads, and fluid. I was using Hawk hp plus pads up front, with hawk hp pads in the back. They were good, but i recently upgraded to ebc yellow, kevlar pads, and they can take, and require way more heat to get to the sweet spot.

Dont use the front swaybar it is a waste of money on an EG, it makes these cars push.
Since you are just tracking your car keep your current brake setup and get good pads and some ATE Super Blue fluid. If you must to do a brake upgrade swap out the rear trailing arms with a 94-01 integra and get the fastbrakes.com 11" corrado rotor upgrade for the front. With this setup you will still be able to run 15" wheels.
Once you start racing, in a couple of years you will have much better feel for what you need to improve the performance of your car.

Ooohhhhh...ITR EG = fun fun
In a similar condition way back when, I ran a set of Koni yellows with some Skunk2 coilovers. (Actually still have them in the garage)
I would not run stock shocks.
If your running a 23mm rear and stiff springs in the, I would suggest playing with a front sway depending on your driving style. The smallest thing you can find. I think there is a del sol sway bar that fits that is like 14mm or something.
Energy bushing kit is ok, but plan to replace every 2-3 years.
See my sig. I'll catch you later.

My car seems to handle well with the stock front sway bar
I am running 450f / 600 rear

It's not a "Race" Setup... but it's probably the best without having to go and get "race valved" shocks.
I have also found that this setup is very predictable, stable, and easy to deal with

Hang on... if you really want to start racing... check out the organization, check out the rules... you may be surprised as what you find. Right now... I would spend all your money on track entry fees, helmet and consumable parts.
If you just want to drive on the track... the $3k you have in your motor, could be used for entry fees and consumables. You don't need a type R motor to be fast.

Work first on your driving before you go an upgrade your car.
You dont NEED much of anything to drive your car on track.
If you are going to do anything.... get
1.) Motul 600 brake fluid
2.) Good track pad (Hawk, porterfield, etc... do a search)
3.) decent trackable STREET tires
You do NOT need to get bigger brakes or rear disks...
pads and tires stop your car.. not big brakes. There are plently of FAST honda challenge guys running rear drums.

you will need integra from lower control arms in order to run a ITR front sway, and youll need after market rear LCAs for a sway car. when i started racing i had a 19mm bar in the rear and nothing in the front which was ok, this season ive added a 22mm front bar and a 22mm ITR rear bar... and i love it. oh my spring rates are 12/10k but remember my set up might suck for you. you need to learn your car and how it handles before picking out this part and that.
