Default Alpine CDA-9885 vs Pioneer Premier Deh-p 690UB

Hey guys. I'm having trouble figuring out which one of these I should get.

9885 Pros-
Can be equipped w/ HD Radio

Cons-
No USB
No Motorized Faceplate

690UB Pros-
USB connection
Motorized faceplate

Cons-
No HD Radio support

I could care less about the motorizd faceplate and the USB capability I guess.. I am more concerned with quality and which one is built better. What do you think I should go with and why?

One thing that is kind of neutral is that withthe 9885 you go through the songs by hitting the forward and backwards button. Where as with the 690 you go through the songs by hitting the joystick left and right. I kind of liek the joystick feature better, but dont know.

Both are pretty good HUs, I'd pick the Alpine, if for no other reason then it does not have a motorized face plate, a lot less moving parts that can fail, and will definitely wear over time. 94

bah. I went ahead and did it. I got the deh-p690ub for 230 w/ the kit and harness and with the 2 year manufacturers warranty I couldn't stop myself. The thing that drew me to the pioneer was the USB capability. If my research is right, it can handle up to a 250gb HDD. I'm probably gonna get a HDD and mount it somewhere and eliminate my CDs. I am terrible at taking care of CDs.

Hopefully I made the right move. So far so good, I love it. I'm picking up some Focal 165v2 components for the front, and an Alpine PDX4150 in a couple weeks. And probably some Infinits or more Focals for the rear. Don't really plan on adding a sub anytime soon.

Does anyone know if the 690 can support ALAC files? I read that it doesn't but the guy said he wasn't sure. I really dont care, cuz AAC quality is sufficient enough IMO... but yeah. Just curious.

btw thanks for the opinions guys.

the main thing(im sure fcm will agree) is the fact that your purchasing quality audio components. now to an even more important topic, please make sure these components are installed correctly. if so you will get many years of enjoyment from them.

Always been an Alpine customer myself. The one time I switched thinking I was getting something better I was never happy.

From now on as long as Alpine doesn't do anything dumb I'll stick to Alpine.

Best of luck with your purchase

What you could do with the PDX4.150, is certainly power the front stage with that, then bridge Ch 3 and 4 for the subs in the rear. If you want a clean install and just want to extend the bass end without having to take up amounts of trunk space with a 12" or even 10" sub, replace the speakers in the rear deak with 6" subs on 3/4" MDF baffles and use some butyl deadening. A lot of newer car makes are putting a single 10" or 8" sub in the rear deck. The Elemental Designs 7Kv.2 (Eu.700) are a great value in my opinion http://www.edesignaudio.com/ed...id=33 and I've heard a lot of good things about eDesign audio's products. This is probably what I'm going to setup on my girl's corolla, some good coaxials/source point speakers up front and replace her 6x9s with two of these subs plus good amounts of deadening.

This is just an idea and certainly a plausible one if you're not really looking for SPL but more at SQ.

I was going to go with the Alpine as well, although I am a Pioneer fan. Honestly they were both so alike, i chose the alpine because its lighting matched my cluster
