rear speakers for 91' crx si
I have to agree, don't need them, better to spend your time and money on better front speakers.
However, correct me if I am wrong, but are the rear speaker on a 91 CRX not in front of the rear shock towers, facing forwards?

There may not be speakers in the rear, but there are locations and speaker wiring. 88-92 Honda CRX used 5.25" or standard 6.5", [either will fit] speakers front and rear.
Here are a set of aftermarket speaker brackets, [plastic crap] with a pix of the OEM bracket... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...ZWDVW they fit just in front of the rear wheel wells.
You should be able to see the speaker grills, if no speakers came with the car there is a piece of tape over the grill part, [holes] on the inside of the grill.
The grill is held in place with 2 Philips screws, [sides] and clips, [top and bottom] use caution when removing.

Ive said this numerous times before about CRX's if you want to use the factory location in the rear, get into some custom work and mount some 8" mid-bass drivers or subs there (there is plenty of room), if not leave them empty.
went to the local install shop today. after besrt buy telling me i had 5.25" speakers in the door. went to ford and garland today(high end car audio store) guy measured out 6.25" speaker locations in my door, then popped off a cover in the rear, in front of the shock towers like you guys told me. those also measured out to be 6.25" so now i gotta re-plan my audio set up. one of you earlier said something about eight inch drivers in the rear WHAT BRAND? im interested in this option
The stock speaker is a standard 6.5", [it uses a 5" diameter mounting hole] If you look at your plastic door speaker housing you will see the 4 mounting holes for a 5.25" speaker, either one will fit, [mounting depth is 2"].
I have never seen anything but a standard 6.5" in the rear, there is a little more mounting depth in the rear.
I have installed over-sized 6.5" in the rears, but I am not sure a set of 8" subs will fit, and wouldn't work anyway, as they need to be in a box.
You want good sound without subs?
Install a set of these in the doors... http://www.eclipse-web.com/point/sp6500.html You can cut the back out of the plastic speaker housings or use a 1/4" MDF spacer, or for best SQ replace the stock plastic speaker housings with custom MDF housings.
Install the same speakers in the rear, just remove the tweeters, get a 4x75W RMS into 4 ohm amp to drive the speakers.

BTW, I would be surprized if the speaker brackets are in the rear if the car came with no rear speakers, or did you just get the car with no rear speakers?
