Did you re check that leak? Possibly replace the hose and also the t-stat.

How many miles are on the motor?

Yes, I did check that hose and its dry. Its a JDM motor so the JDMENGINEDEPOT says 30,000 to 40,000 miles.

Also, I should of stated that I just picked up a Mishoto radiotor with 12' Slim fan. I installed this on my old Y8 and worked perfect. I wired it up correctly when swapping new motor and works when I jump the circuit.

if it was leaking he'd probably notice smoke from coolant hitting engine components...

Did you replace the headgasket when you swapped the engine over? My civic had similar symptoms before it totally kicked the bucket.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by HondamanXxX &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Drove to school the other day and once I got there I noticed the temp almost all the way up Keep in mind I just swapped in this B18C. So first off I just turned the car off and went to class. Got out and let it warm up to normal temp. And drove home.

Once home I figured I jump the fan circuit to see if it is turning on. No go Blew the fuse. Then I put a new one in yesterday. Let it warm up, everything looks great. Drove it a little lastnight and all was well

Today: Took it for a little 15 min spin around town to see how shes doing and the temp goes back up. I remember once doing the swap we did have a leak but patched it up and put a clamp over it. (Ghetto but worked) Then we filled it up about 50-70% of water. This was 2 weeks ago. I just went o Walmart to pick up 2 gallons of Anti-freeze. I will flush all that water out and refill with this.

I know I haven't replaced the thermostat yet but I'm just making sure its not anything else. When normal driving for about 10 min the temp stays perfect. 5 min later it goes up.

So is there anything else it could be? The fan is working, fuse and relay is working, fluid is getting changed, and then maybe ordering a thermostat.

Anything I'm missing that might cause this?

Thanks</TD></TR></TABLE>

first off, i would like to ask, why would you jump the fan to see if it is working?
you need to make jump cables, meaning, a set of wires to run from the fan harness to the battery. never jump fan or any other electrical component, you can do more damaged than planned.

back to your probelm. have you burrbed the system? when you add the new coolant, start the car, open the radiator cap, then add more coolant until full.

and unless you have physically seen the fan turn on, you should recheck your fan and fan relay.

smoke from the coolant hitting the engine components? mmm...not exactly. just because he might have a leak, the only way he will see smoke from it is if it hit the manifold or exhaust.

No I did not.

I took a paper clip and threw both end in the sensor. Bad idea?

Yes I have burbbed the system.

And yes I have seen the fan turn on and it blows air pretty powerful for a little thing.

EDIT: The fuse is new and I hear the relay clicking when jumping it.

i wouldn't worry about the headgasket quite yet. but i'm glad to see you know how to burb the system. so let start with the simplest first. look for the leaks from youe ghetto repair, then maybe change the thermo if there is no leaks.

So if the leak is fixed and not leaking anything then it has to be the thermostat? The leak looks perfectly fine and I have checked it everyday since the swap.

I don't know much about thermostats but does it send the fan on when it's getting hot? Because then I would understand that that is the problem since I know the fan is working.

Thanks for all the quick helpful replys.

what the thermo does is, when the motor reaches a certain temp, it opens allowing more coolant in. the problem is if it is stuck, it's not allowing the proper amount of coolant to flow.

and don't put all your eggs in one basket now. there could be other factors that can cause the problem, for example your radiator cap, water pump, and wosrt of them all, the headgasket.

but now that have scared you, lets first worry about the thermo. go and change it. GO! GO, GO NOW!

Yes yes, go change it... im curious to see some findings. Must eliminate the cheapest possibilities first.

Though it may not be the cause for your overheating, with most JDM motors or used motors in general its always better to replace the water pump since the engine is out.

no, they should have them. they are small enough to stock.
any thermo for a b-series motor will work.

not tryin to be an *** just for knowledge i guess ... the thermostat at start up keeps cold coolant flowing throughout the block and engine without going through the radiator which would cool it down more... then when enough heat is created the coolant expands the "device" (pellets, etc) and then the cycle begins.. coolant heats up in hot engine runs through rad. heat transfers then back to cooling engine any corrections welcomed

i just had the same issue with my fan and i jumped it with a paper clip lol. Do you own or know someone who owns a volt meter?? it sounds like a short in a wire in your main harness...just an idea tho. all you to is pin it and watch for a voltage drop. then just trace it back to where the wire goes from the harness and there should lye your issue. Thats what mine was atleast...just an idea. let me know how it works out for you!

Well today the car is running excellent. Yesterday or the day before I flushed out the whole system and threw in anti-freeze and today its perfect. Altho, I did buy a new thermostat and will be installing it tomorrow.

A problem that I noticed was was that the fan was pulling air from the tranny into the radiator but the fan was on the inside of the bay not the outside. So I quickly switched the wires around and now the air is pushing on my tranny area.

Thanks for all your help guys
