Well, not sure what wages are like there on the east coast, I would assume generally higher. However, expenses would be the same way. I only make $10/hr at 40 a week, but my job is EASY. I could hold another job no problem if I wanted to. I help a wedding planner on occasion for extra dough but I don't have much in expenses. Phone, Car, Insurance. Im 20. Trying to get my car how I want it before I rent or buy a house, because I will be broke for sure then.
If you want to see if you can afford the car simply go to the dealer and get a quote or just go to the Honda site and have them factor the payments for you. Then get a quote from your insurance company.
Now at this point, simply pretend that you bought the car and put the money into another bank account that you are not going to touch and see if you can make it by without that amount of money or not. After a few months you should know if you can afford it and best of all, it will be a great down payment for when you finally decide to buy.

really good idea.
and $20K+ is a huge investment for a person your age.....think about it real hard. you dont want to mess up you credit/financial stability early in your life.

the cost for me is about $600 per month ($450 for car payment & $150 for insurance), which roughly means that the car takes $4 from me every hour i work. this is fine by me as a quality assurance worker.

The question isn't what everyone else makes. I can make $250k/yr but still not be able to afford the Si because I'm in debt up to my ears or can't save a dime for 2 days.
Call your ins. company and get a quote on an Si. Add $450/mo to that (if you've got decent credit & no money down). Can you afford to spend that much a month?
If you can afford it but you're worried about spending too much, ask your HR person at work (or whoever handles payroll) if you can split your check up into 2 accounts (direct deposit). You can then have your insurance and car payment come out of one that you don't touch and live off the other one.

Im a pizza delivery driver. On avg w tips included I make about 15 dollars an hr @ 30 hrs a week. I have two cars, I use the prelude for delivery. I have a few credit cards a phone bill and a gf and Im still cool.
I do installs for Directv and get pad by the job. Right now I am on track to make a little over $50k. I have my SI and my wife wanted one also, but she cant drive a stick, so she got a LX. Also have rent, credit cards, insurance, oh and two kids. I still have money left over the play with. But the wife does work also.
i'm really lucky and do a sport where sponsors pay for everything i need, and i get stipends, and thats what pays for my car, but i put 12k down on it, so i'll have it paid off in 2 years
