If giverment finds out......
1. They confisacate the car.
2. They CAN file charges against you.
U r Liable for possesion of stolen property.

Even ur friends who helped you install the engine to the car becomes and accessory.

Its not worth it.

Possesion of Stolen Property. <--- U r as much liable as the guy who stole it. It means u go to jail. Period.

How do they prove its not yours??

If the owner was smart enough to report the stolen engine and he has documents to show the engine is His/Hers.

How do they find out??

Every time there is a possibility somebody checks your engine serial number. (Like DMV) Although its not 100% sure that a person will be caught, But if it does happen, that person screwed.

And all this risks for what??
Cheap bragging rights that you have a bad-*** engine.... still not worth it.

Dude,
The law is in this case is simple and easy to understand.
Possesion of stolen property is a criminal offense. There is no "if" or "but". This statement maybe unfair to some but it is the Law and the law will be implemented.

Also, a criminal offense means jail time if proven guilty. U pay the damages AND you go to jail.

The buyer should have checked if the property was stolen or not.

BTW, if you know a motor is stolen (or anything for that matter), you should notify the police. Most likely they will just harass you on where it was from. But legally, it is still at police discretion weather to file charges against the person or not.

BUT IF you were caught..... ur pretty much screwed as there is No defense for possessing stolen property.
Like I said, the law in this case is simple and easy to understand.
