Default 1990 Civic LX Won't rev passed 3500

I replaced the cap, rotor, plugs, and wires already, I have a ck eng light on...the car is missing pretty good, sounds like it running off 3cylinders. I have no clue where the diagnostics port is on the car, and do not know how to ck why the engine light is on.

The motor won't rev passed 3500 at all, falls flat on its face if driving...car is a 5spd if that matters

Any advice would be appreciated

pull down the carpet on the passenger side. If your check engine light is on then you will see a red flashing light comin from the ECU. Count how many times the light flashes and report back

8 TDC - top dead center sensor
sounds like its time for a new dizzy. Try reseting your ecu and see if it still throws the code

I don't know what that is?

EDIT: Oh ok...replace the sensor or whole "dizzy"?

mine did that when i had the wire's messed up you should try that just to double check
and a nother time when it sounded similar i had a bad injector try disconecting your injector if nothing happens disconect the next one on mine it was the top injector so that also might be a thing to look at

I would first have you timing checked out and make sure there are no loose connections in the dizzy wiring. If all else fails, it would be easier to just pick up a new dizzy or go to the junkyard.

Might be a possibility with the wires, since I just copied the way they were on before, and the plugs were nasty black....so firing order might be messed up...

thanks guys for all the input, I will get back on here to post the progress...

Anybody have the firing order off the top of their heads

Firing order was not the issue...

How do I figure out if this motor is the 1.6 or the 1.5?

Are all D series "dizzy's" the same?

Thanks

You can tell by looking at the engine code on the block ( circled in red)

i believe your car has a d15 in it
The Si's and 4 door ex civics had the d16 in them

just look for a code stamped near the mounting area on the distributor.

if its a 1.5 the code should read "TD-01U" and i think for a 1.6 its "TD-02U".
