Default Tranny leak

hey guys, i just bolted up my si tranny on my crx. The tranny drives fine but i seem to have a leak. I looked under the car and i didnt see any cracks in the casing or the leak coming from the tranny seal. The leak seems to be coming from the left axle. so i guess its from the left axle seal in the tranny? has anyone else had this problem? n where would be a good place to buy the seal brand new?

You can get a new seal from any auto parts store or dealer. If you drive with the leak be careful since the transmission oil will disolve the undercoating if it gets on it.

yes its most likely your axle seal...pick one up from your local dealership or parts store.

IF THERES SOMETHING WRONG INSIDE THE TRANNY ITSELF WOULD IT ALSO CAUSE IT TO LEAK OIL?

its your axle seal...should have changed them when you swaped the tranny....takes an extra 2 min once the axles are out.

well i had a friend of mine look at my car today n he said theres no way so much oil came out of the tranny through the axle seal...he said its the seal inside the tranny thats bad, dat causes the tranny to leak from inside the selector shaft....so the tranny has to be taken apart....have u guys experience something like this?

Is there oil leaking from under the flywheel splash cover? If so, then your mainshaft oil seal is bad. If the shift rod seal is leaking, you'd just see it leaking around the shift rod boot and back. I'm still willing to guess it's the axle seal.

yea i think its the mainshaft oil seal....because there is way too much oil leaked from the trans and i dont think the diff would leak so much cus like i said, ive chaged axles in my dx trans n i never saw oil leak to that extent....n if i remember right when i bought the si tranny n picked it up it looked a little wet inside, i just didnt think nothing of it.....n this sucks cus now i have to get the tranny taken off againg n take the casing apart to replace that seal....i was thinking of buying another si trans but who knows wat problems dat would have ....so when i go to honda to buy this seal i tell them i need the main shaft seal??

Yup, main shaft or input shaft oil seal.

You might as well have your Input Shaft Bearing replaced while you're in there. If you have a 90-91 Si trans, the part numbers and a how-to are here:

Towards the bottom of the page is where I start the trans. rebuild.
