Default If I could get a hatchback for free......

My friend wants to trade shells with me. He has a 93 Civic Si Hatch. I have a 97 LS Coupe. For NO COST to me, I we can do an even trade. He will do all the work with the swap.

I get to keep my entire interior, dash, wheels, brakes, suspension, etc and put it in the hatch. Basically we're stripping it down to a bare shell.

He pays for a professional paint job for any color I want.

What do you guys think? My only concern is the fact that I have a "Honda" instead of an "Acura", the Honda's luxury division.

Please give me an opinion and tell me why. I know it will be faster, but will it ride like my LS? Will it ride as steady as my LS at 50mph as it does at 130mph?

Thanks guys. Sorry for the somewhat long post. I appreciate your opinion.

keep your car i'd say..

do you want this car to race?? cuz i would still keep my car unless it was a cx cuz those are lighter..

if you have the shell for an ls i say do a jdm conversion and swap in a nice motor.

acura is a stupid company the states made up to make honda more luxury, so dont worry.

why does he want to trade, yet you keep everything?

just keep it. I can see trading rims or whatever, but not the whole car

If I were you I wouldnt. That seems like a **** load of work and downtime. Just sell your car and with the money you get back from that (considering the condition) you should be able to either build an LS motor hatch or buy one already built. Seriously, if you dont have another car downtime sucks big harry *****.

Big hairy *****, eh?

Keep in mind I'd only get the hatchback for free if I'm doing the trade. He's not just going to give me one. Hehe. Downtime wouldn't be too long. A week or so. I'm in my summer vacation so I've got time.

It isn't even a question. YES YES YES. Particularly if he's throwing in a paint job.

P.S. if you're good with wrenching the downtime shouldn't even be a week. although the dash and stuff could give you problems.

Mike

Financially, I think you may be losing money. A LS would sell for more than a hatch with a LS swap. I guess it depends on the quality of the paint job that you'd be getting.

The fact that you're worried about whether it's an Acura or Honda though makes me think that you should just keep your car. The average person sees an Acura as a lot better car than a Honda... if that's gonna bother you, then don't do it.

That said, I'd personally rather have a hatch... I sold my '00 prelude and bought two of them, one is now a hybrid and the other's a daily driver.

Hatch would be my preference, but with the paint job and everything, it's definitely going to be longer than a weeks downtime.

But a turbo'ed LS in a Si hatch? That's sweet.

I wouldn't do it if I were you. The Si hatch actually weighs more than an EG sedan DX. Your ls probably weighs only 150 pounds more. I'm probably wrong about all that, but what I'm saying is that if it were me, I wouldnt do it. Integras are great cars. Hatches are great too, but for all of that trouble, it would only be worthwile if it was a lighter model (vx,cx). By the way, if you're getting your ls susp. and brakes, what in the world is he putting on your ls when he gets it, or does the si already have integra suspension?
