Testing the Igniter? Can it be done? I get (code #15 Ignition signal missing)
Hey guys. I'm getting Error code #15 on my girlfriends 1992 Honda Accord LX Coupe. Basicly we are trouble shooting why her car is not starting. It stopped running in the middle of the road. Luckily we were 1 mile away from the house.
things that I have tested:
-Took out Main relay and resoldered the joints. (seems to be working)
-Throttle position sensor is getting 5 volts.
-Replaced Fuel Filter
-Heard Fuel pump hum and loosened the fuel filter connector (sprayed fuel)
so it works. Retightened.
- Ohm tested the coil per Chilton manual. All within specs.
- Ohm Tested each plug wire and the coil wire. All within specs.
- Replace the cap and rotor
We are thinking it is igniter but it is 68$ to replace. we are going to the junkyard to search but we were wondering if there is a way to test the igniter? Especially wondering if (code #15 Ignition signal missing) is related to the igniter failing with all the other parts passing that we've tested.
Thanks in Advance!

Thanks so much again. She's got job interviews she needs her car for and this helps a LOT!!!
I will repost back the results on this thread.
Take care.

Replaced the Igniter and the thing fired right up.
But,... we were still getting code 15 (ignition signal signal) and then code 12 (Exhaust gas recovery circuit) showed up. This time the actual check engine light turned on. We drove down the street about a mile and back again and then the car died just like before. I'm seriously hoping that the igniter isn't fried from something that killed the other one.
On a good note. the old one was 'OKI' brand which needed to be replaced anyways per everything I've read so far.

So, we gave up on testing the new Neihoff Igniter that died on us so we decided to get a whole remanufactured Distributor on Ebay because @$75.00 it was just as much as an Igniter by it's self and it worked great. It had a brand new Mitsubishi Igniter in it and the rest looked new mostly. Put it in and it fired right up. Cleared the codes with battery disconnect for about 20 seconds, retested and code 15 is gone.
I suspected that the speedometer gets it's signal from the distributor and this replacement fixed that also. The problem was when actual speed was say "50" mph, the speedometer read 35mph (way off). With the new Dizzy it now says 46mph on a "50mph" reading (via traffic speed sign radar)
After driving it around for most the day we've decided it's safe to declare this code 15 fixed. Now on to the code 12 (EGR Valve circuit)
Thanks for all the help guys.

EGR Valve was unplugged. looking at it in daylight helps heh. I must have unplugged it while tinkering with the Dizzy harness. Anyways, it gets a shot of dielectrical grease now woot.
The girlfriend is happy to be able to drive her hoopty again.
Thanks again guys for all the helpful links and info!
