Quick valve adjustment question
I have no idea when the valves were last checked on my Accord, so I might as well do that job. What I'm wondering is if I need to remove the timing belt cover to be able to manually turn the crank to get to the individual cylinder TDC points. I've heard the timing belt cover is horrible to get loose, I just want to know what I'm getting into (if that's even necessary).
you have to remove the upper timing cover to see the cam gear. It's only 2 bolts and it's off after you've removed the valve cover of course.
the lower timing cover is the one that is a pain and that doesn't come off to do a valve adjustment.

Depends on the year and model.

I am sure there is a recommended interval but remember, the looser they are, the more your valve tips and rockers are getting beat up, back in the day, it was part of my yearly tune up. Manufactures report longer and longer intervals as a sales gimmick, the less maintenance you have to do, the cheaper it is to maintain your vehicle on a yearly basis, take care of your engine and it will take care of you.
Here in Japan, once every 4 years due to the cost of tune up parts, milage is low yearly anyways, all city driving.

i have a 94 lx, and i can hear my valves tick and tock, been putting it off for so long, anyways don't you have to remove the passenger motor mount in order to take off the side cover.
Only the valve cover, you will need a new valve cover gasket, seal washers for under the nuts that secure the cover and the spark plug hole seals, and some parts cleaner.

94-97 regardless of trim/motor recommended every 15k or yearly
according to the haynes manual

If you do reuse the gasket, I would at least get 4 new spark plug hole seals, added insurance against oil leaking into the spark plug wells and damaging the wires.
I'm not sure where the boosted and blowby come into play. many people without boosted engines have had issues with either the upper or lower spark plug tube seals, it seems like mostly the uppers though.
and as a general rule, I just replace the valve cover gasket when I remove the valve cover, unless I just replaced it recently. Just to be sure I wont have any leaking problems.

i just ordered the VC kit from majestic honda, only 25 bucks. i'll be doing mine this weekend, hopefully my engine will quiet down, but anyway if i were to do this every 15k, i'd spend the 25 bucks just to be safe. just my thought
no need to remove the upper timing belt cover,,,
