Default 02 sensors?

kind of a dumb question, but are the 02 sensors actually that important? I know you have to have them to pass inspection and all...The reason I ask is that my crank shaft sensor code came up, but yet my car still starts. After awhile, it will die on me though...I was wondering if its because the sensor is causing it, or if maybe my timing belt may jumped lose and thrown my timing off a bit?

Thanks

The crank sensor is a different part and is requiredd for the computer to function properly. The O2 sensors are yet another element. In either case-they must work correctly in a 5th gen or you will be put into "limp mode" until they are replaced. Your timing will be affected if the belt skipped a tooth, but this is not a likely event unless the tensioner is defective or you installed a new belt improperly.
Good luck
