JDM header bracket = good idea
That would be logical. But you gotta remember the cast iron manifold flexes less cause it's beefier and it has a header bracket on the upper manifold as well.
I don't know. You'd think if anything the heavier cast iron manifold would need the stronger brackets, wouldn't you?
What about regular USDM aftermarket headers? I've never heard of needing a stronger bracket for those. I would think a regular DC header would flex just as much as the DC JDM, I just can't figure it out.
If the JDM DC header has the bracket mounting studs in the same location as every other JDM header, then you cannot use the USDM header bracket... it's not a strength thing, it's a location thing.

I had no idea you could force fit the USDM header backet onto the JDM one.

I wonder how my DC JDM fit the stock bracket then. That's strange. But honestly what purpose does that bracket serve? SMSP and HyTech don't even use the bracket so I would think it's not needed. I mean there are 9 bolts connecting the header to the engine and 2 more connecting it to the exhaust system. The bracket just seems kind of redundant to me.

I think the reason the DC JDM header fits the stock bracket is because it is designed in the US to fit on USDM cars by DC, the Honda 4-1 JDM (and other Japanese manufacturered JDM headers) is designed to fit JDM cars and use a different bracket (i.e. the one that's standard on the JDM ITR), therefore when you put one of these on a USDM/UK car it need the JDM bracket also. my £0.02
I see now. Funny that DC says "Designed for the Japanese Market Integra Type R, now available for US customers" as if they've made that header for the JDM ITR's all along. I wonder, is the 96specR bracket different from the 98specR?

so what's the reason??? honda feels there needs to be some extra supports to keep the header from flexing/putting stress on the bolts in the head. the jdm bracket is only like $20... (although i don't have one yet
