My buddie has a 02 f4i and jus recently everytime we go ride after a while the F1 light comes and and cuts the bike off..he then has to put it in Neutral and start it back up...we already changed the sperk plugs yesterday and that didn't do anything..and also the bike onl has 5k on it...what could be the problem...the fuek injector bad?..all help apprecitated
THe FI light is similar to the "check engine" light in your car. If you can get your hands on a code reader, you can plug it into the ECU and see what code is being thrown. Otherwise, take it to a dealer and they'll charge you $90 to diagnose the problem
Well if it is mechanical then one of the sensors will likely pick it up. If an injector was bad it would probably misfire, so count that out. I would do some more researching or consult an owners manual before spending any more time or money replacing the wrong parts.
F4i's are fairly bulletproof unless they've been into an accident or other abnormal circumstances. If you have the fairings off, check to make sure all of the vacuum hoses are connected. Does the bike shut off before the motor reaches operating temp (~180*)?

Actually, i've been having issues with my f4i too.
Downshifting at the top third of the powerband (usually coming off a long straight and setting up for the corner) the bike will die on me. Not only that, the bike won't bump start (let in clutch in high gear, let it out, since i'm already doing 90, 80, 107 mph at that point) nor will the bike button start.
I have to clutch, turn the key to turn off the bike, turn it back on, and thumb the starter.
any ideas what that could be? that ****'s gonna kill me one day
