I have a 97 civic dx and im putting the tanabe super racing medlaion on i also will have a b18b in a week. My question is the guy i got my exhaust from told me the mid pipe is longer than a ex one ie \bypassing the cat and bolting right to the header... is this possible with a LS factory header and a DX exhaust.. Thanx!
I in the process of putting a B18B in my CX and had to research the same thing. I believe that on your dx the cat was positioned in the exhaust manifold. That is why the midpipe is longer and bolts right to the header. With the new engine and exhaust it might work(spacing will be close) although you wouldn't have a cat. Your other option would be to get an exhaust for an ex and then at a cat after the header (you might have to get a special lenght cat made from landspeed). I would suggest that you get a verification on this info. or a second opinion. This is what I had to do on my '94 cx, but it sounds like the same problem. Hope this helps.

yea thats what i figured i dont want a cat anyways plus i can get the hook up on some stickers but i dont need one until2 more years
I have a 96 Civic DX coupe, with a B18C motor. This is my current set up:
B18C motor, B16A Header (from an Si), Test cat (same length as a GSR cat), and an Apexi N1 catback made for a Civic EX. Fits perfectly, with no modification. You want to go with a Civic EX catback. I forgot if they're different lengths because of where the cat is positioned on a DX. Hope that helps.

aem civic we live in the same state, well anyways i have the b16b done in my 2000 civic dx an i am using the apexi n1 catback exhaust and it is for an ex and im using a jdm type-r manifold(4-1)and a high flow cat,the cat needed to flanged out bigger on the manifold side ,do to the fact that the jdm headers outlet is 2.50 ,but all of this lines up,if your not gonna run a cat just get a test pipe to eliminate it....
when I finished my swap.. B18B in to 98 civic dx htbk.. I had my old Tanabe Gpower exhaust on and it was approx 2-3 inches to short.. I forget if the Ex piping is longer or shorter.. hope this adds a bit of INFO
The header and the cat-back piping will bolt up. But you need to pull it about 1/2 inch closer and align the bolt holes together. They do not line up easily thought
