I would much rather run the OBX than a spool personally BUT also look into a Quaife if you can afford it. Keep in mind their LIFETIME WARRANTY actually means something and will be taken care of IF it ever has a problem(Quaife)

I used the same tranny in 3 different cars with a Quaife and never an issue. They are more than worth it.
But to answer your question I would rather have the obx than a spool.

I had issues with my OBX after only a few passes. Now I have a spool, but I plan on doing a quaife as driveability sucks with the spool. I would just run open diff until you can afford a quaife. In fact I wish I would follow my own advice and take the spool out so I can turn again!

The passenger side axle would not stay in and had lots of play. It kept popping out and dripping fluid, and then when I pulled it apart the diff was worn out where the axle goes in with lots of metal shavings.

break an axle and your headed for the wall.
break an axle and your headed for the wall.
After running a spool for two years and going to an LSD i'd rather run a LSD..A nice one your in alittle more money but the thing i like is how easy it is to turn the car on slicks..

Theres plenty of time to lift before your hitting the wall..I snapped two axels one in second gear and one in third and had plenty of time to get out of the throttle and the car straightens itself out..

The most common time to break an axle would be at a launch. I broke one at the track with my welded differential in the stock gearbox and just went to the side and limped off the track with a 38mph trap speed, haha!
I'd never run a spool/welded diff. on a street car, but with some 24.5x8 slicks with 12psi, it's not THAT hard to drive, you just need to make wider turns and use some arm muscles.

I myself like the 50 50 split. Car goes straight with little effort at the wheel. I run the welded diff and upgraded AXLES just to be on the safe side. If I was Turbo with 8+whp I would def not run a spool cause theres always that chance of breaking on the top end.

Ah ha finally see the light, I remember you a couple of years back all about a spool and a couple of people I think said it was not a good idea and that NOPI/NHRA should outlaw the spool in Sportsman classes at least or something like that

ive broken an axle at over 130mph and got nowhere near the wall with a spool....granted they do suck when it comes to get around the pits or in the trailor with 5-6 psi in the slicks..lol
Quaife LSD..HANDS DOWN! We don't allow OBX stuff in our facility...PERIOD! that should say something about their product. If you come in our shop with an OBX...you will have 50 employees chasing you down the street with a countershaft in one hand and mainshaft in the other
GO Quaife....If you have the money to build up a car to make that kind of power you can at least invest half of that into your trans, which is equally as important
Listen to people with real cars and knowledge...not the dreamers with frugal habits.

what exactly is wrong with obx lsd's? i agree that all their other stuff they make is complete junk.
i have never once heard anyone having problems with their obx lsd.. yea long time ago when they first came out people were having problems getting axles out because it wasnt beveled, but thats long since fixed and havent heard anything else.. i love mine. if there is nothing wrong with them then why fork out all that extra cash for a quaife if its not needed, maybe on a full race car.

What people fail to realize is the LIFETIME WARRANTY, if you need to get your diff warrantied from Quaife it is NO HAGGELING WITH THEM AT ALL, it get's done. I still haven't ever had a customer need any warranty work on one, I have had mine since 98-99 also
OBX I do hear is VERY DIFFICULT to warranty if at all sooooooooooooo............Take that for what it is worth. It is cheaper to do it one time the right way then wrong twice or more times
