Default 98 D16y8 into a 97 ek coupe(non-vtec)

Just got my hands on a 1998 D16y8 complete swap (motor, trans, ecu, harness, axles, and shift linkage). I am assuming that everything will plug and play due to the fact that they are both obd2. I know that I will have some wiring issues due to the fact that my car was a non-vtec chassis. Can anyone give me some ideas as to what additional wiring I am looking at or other potential problems I might run into? I would also like to swap over to odb1 at some point but that is down the road a little ways. Thanks in advance Tim

you need to follow this-

http://www.ff-squad.com/tech/w...8.jpg

you need to do the wire swap for the 2-wire iacv as detailed in that link. Also, you can use the left over orange wire from that iacv deal (if you repin it at the ecu) for one of the other wires you'll need to run (like vtec pressure sensor, or vtec activation)

you also, i believe, will have an extra wire at the CKP, so you can repin and reuse that wire too, but i think i just left mine alone.

so, you'll need to get a few obd2 pins, some wire similar to the what is used in the harness, some heat shrink, solder and iron, a crimper, and of course a plug to meet up with the vtec pressure sensor, vtec activation and knock sensor.

you might need to extend 02 wires, but i'm not 100% because it's been a long time.

What is the easiest way to go about the rewiring? Would I just run the wires from the ecu and splice into the harness in the engine compartment and then re-pin the ecu? It almost sounds to easy...

if you have the 98 y8 harness you don't have to do any wiring at all

Ok. Here is an update. Just picked up the motor. 1998 D16y8. Motor came with tranny, ecu (p2p), axles, and dizzy. It did not come with a ex harness. Can anyone give me idiot proof direction as to what exactly I need to do? I have Katmans page bookmarked and I know what needs to be done, I just need direction as to how to go about it.

I was also wondering how to go about getting the missing plugs that I need (Vtec solenoid, vtec pressure sending unit, ect). Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

really all of the info is there in katman's links. it's got what wires to add, where to add them, how to add pins and/or remove pins from the cabin plug, etc, etc.

you need to get pins from someone, and also said plugs. you might be able to find them in the classifieds. usually, most people that do swaps or have done some have a jdm harness (made for RHD so useless here) in their stash or some junk harness from which they can pull some plugs for you.
