which brands or combinations of header and catbacks are you planing to use cause the sound can be really loud if you have no cats and no resonators with a big outlet or you can have a fully custom one with a highflow cat and one or more resonators with very large piping and outlet and have a very quiet sound and great performance ... the question is alittle broad to answer ...

for my axle back i plan on combining the toda header, text pipe, and hks hi power which will pretty much make me loud as hell and very ricey ... but hopefully the silencer that comes with the hi power is good enough to tone it down just a bit ...

why get an axle back when full exhaust systems are usually up for sell

unless your buying it used or something
or do you even know the difference between the two?

well my setup is for all motor and counts as a full exhaust anyway ... and axle back is really good for a turbo setup right ???

nope, full exhaust will usually perform better
an axle back is mostly for show and noise

why would you want just an axleback? a full catback is the whole exhaust system from after the cat to the muffler. an axleback is just the part after the resonator to the muffler. basically its just the muffler and some piping.

the 05-06 type S piping is good, but its still not better than aftermarket piping.

05-06 type s pipping with an axleback on an 02-04 is a lot better than stock. You would be able to see some gains from that setup.

i dont doubt you'll see gains, i'm just saying that aftermarket piping which is usually bigger would be a bit better

You're absolutely right but to keep the sound down the more stock the better.

ahh..! i was planing on doing so, on my next drag race. i guess i'll take the whole piping out and leave it from headers only. Just for one night race only.

you'll definately feel gains with that but you'll lose all torque in your low end. better hope you get up to the high end quick or it looks like you'll get beat off the launch

this is an axel back exhaust:

Spoon sports N1

this is a catback exhaust system:

Toda High Power Exhaust System

From your motor to the muffler consists of different sections:

- motor
- header
- downpipe
- catalytic converter
- midpipe
- rearsection piping (axle back section)
- muffler

The axle/axel back exhaust might gain you a little power but in most cases it just produces more noise. To gain real power from an exhaust system requires changing everything from the motor back.

- race header
- high flow cat
- midpipe
- straight through design performance muffler

changing the catback will give you more than what an axle/axel back system would provide but without altering the header or cat the performance gains are still minimal.

A silencer actually reduces performance allowing less air to leave the exhaust system.

Running open header (header with no exhaust system) you will gain alot of whp more than you can have with any exhaust system.

The sound of an exhaust system depends on what mods you have and the type of muffler you are using. For an axle back exhaust it really just depends on the muffler. most are loud because people that get the axle back usually want the sound rather than the performance.
