Default !!!!! WEIRD OVERHEATING PROBLEM !!!!!

I was driving tues to the gym when my idle started bouncing from normal to about 1200 then it would stop and then do it again. them i looked at my cluster again and my temp was up.(between normal and RED HOT). I just got my swap maybe 6 months ago from h motors. i change everything but the thermostat when i got the swap. so i figured that was the problem. i change that Wednesday. Drove it to work and home from riverside to chino and back on thursady. Didn't overheat. came home change clothes before i went to the gym. While i was on my way to the gym everything was fine and then it did it again. i popped the hood and my reservoir or overflow tank was spiting out fluid.so i let it cool off and drove it home. when i got home i popped the hood again and i noticed really light smoke coming from the front of the motor. but my temp was still reading normal and my idle was trippin again. i know i put the thermostat in right because i have done it before with my old motor. i dont know. can guys please help? oh i have a d15b vtec and theres no check engine light or nothing.

did you bleed the coolant system?

You have to get all the air bubbles out becaus eif not there will be an air bubble in the temp sensor and the gauge will read normal but he car my beat hooter than the gauge reads

maybe your waterpump gasket?leaking
i would say headgasket but im not sure if it would leak on the outside of the block?
something to check out, if you did get all the air out maybe there is a hole were it is sucking in air?

It's not only your waterpump gasket, it's your waterpump itself. Get your waterpump replaced and you're good to go. No doubt about it.

i replaced the waterpump when i got he swap. this is why it so weird. my hoses waterpumo and thermostat have now all been changed and its still acting stupid. i think it might be the fan switch becuz i haven't seen the fan come on yet.

Ok first check the fluid level. Then make sure all hoses are connected. Not really sure what yo idle is bouncing, check to see if your coolent hoses on the IACV is connected good. And also check the fan switch, it might be bad.

lol
if your rad hoses are real hot that you cant hold your hand on it it is most likeley your fan, or something to do with it, if they are luke arm or you can hold you hand on there it is probly your thermostat.
maybe a rad flush would help a little bit?

i just put on a new switch and i finally saw the fan come on. but it is weird the fan kinda comes on for a second and then goes off. bu it will eventually come on for the normal time. just those on and then off again times worry me. make me think their is something wrong with this switch.

Ok my fan hardly comes on at all. Only if I'm sitting in traffic for a long time. And when its on it only runs for a few sec. But i've got aftermarket fan.

the coolant bottle is good for removing the air out of the system. Make sure it's under the max line. Check your coolant fluid too. That same thing happens to my car on occasion.

does it still overheat now?

well mine overheated about 2 weeks ago.
it was spitting out fluid the one time i was heading home. i had no idea what the problem was. i dont know if it damaged anything else cause i had to drive home. i was about a 10 mile drive. luckly it was very cold out and no traffic so i was able to just go at any speed with my heater on full blast. that kinda kept it right under the red but it would bounce off the red temp line. the next day i checked and the fan didnt come on at all. when i filled up the radiator again just to check what would happen, it would heat up and bubble then spit it out. i am not sure if anything else such as waterpump is out but ill have to test things out for now. it might be your fan's relay. those things tend to go out.

as for the hose. the hose still gets pretty hot now even witht he fan. because of the socal weather i rigged up where a dual slim fan would just run all the time and some after the engine stops so it cools things more efficiently.
