Default Gas Cap issue....

Was there ever a recall on the gas cap for the S2000? Mine keeps unthreading while driving; kept on getting CEL, so I decided to replace it to see if that solves it.

For reference, I drive a 02 S2k; 32k miles.

Don't think there is an official recall but it is a known problem.

Yeah, my cap will click like hell then start screwing in some more, then start clicking more and be on enough.

Mugen replacement anyone?

Mine does the same. Just push in on it while turning it.

Will, I went and bought a replacement OEM gas cap. it seems to screw in better, but I hope it stays on while I'm driving.

The only thing related to the gas cap that was a problem...was the filler neck becoming warped on some older s2k's.

I think it's obvious. The car has too much torque.

I went and checked it out. There was a "Service Bulletin" reguarding the gas cap and Fuel neck.

"The Probable cause....The threads in the fuel fill pipe bind on the fuel fill cap."

The affected vehicles were:
-2002~04 CRV 2wd and 4wd
-2002 S2000 - All
2003 S2000 - From VIN JHMAP1....3T000001 thru JHMMAP1....3T007688

-2002~04 Insight

Now....here's the problem. My car is a 2002, and probably isn't covered by waranty anymore(2nd owner). "BUT," I only have 33k miles or less.

On the paper I was handed by my mechanic....it says....
Out of warranty: Any repair performed after warranty expiration may be eligible for goodwill consideration by the District Parts and Service Manager or you Zone Office. You must request consideration, and get a decision, before starting work.

What do you guys think; do you guys think they'll buy it(dealer) if I show the paper?

The Mugen cap is just a cover and they send a new OEM cap with it.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Dress up your vehicle with the new Mugen fuel cap cover. Utilizing a plastic resin plating process this chrome plated piece fits over the factory fuel filler cap for an impressive look.

This item only works with certain factory fuel filler caps. Please note the product description and order the factory Honda piece if necessary. </TD></TR></TABLE>

but anyways. I started twisting it on from the sides, I haven't gotten a CEL since
