Is there a way other than the stamp on the block to tell what motor you have?

I have reason to believe that my Z6 is not actually a Z6, but possibly a mini-me... is there any way to tell aside from the stamp on the block?

The stamp on the block will tell you if the block is a Z6 or not, so why would you need anything else?

VIN tag on the back of the block will tell you what car it came from, if it is not original.

id like to see a vin tag on a z6 block...

if it says d16z6 then its a d16z6
a mini me would be a d15 or a d16y7 with a vtec head - you can id the head too, but in your case its pointless

the stamp does say it's a Z6, but i bought all new belts that didn't fit at all, and i looked online from several sources and they all agreed on the same size belts + or - a centimeter at most....then after i measured and figured what size belts it needed, the P/S belt matches that of the 'S' model del sol (or dx civic)... the stamp does not seem tampered with, but some people could just be that good at altering/swapping them, so you never know

where exactly is the vin stamp on the block, or is it the numbers right under the engine code?

my ecu is the P28 (although that doesn't mean a whole lot)... the valve cover says vtec, but i have no idea where to look for the solenoid

thanks for your responses guys

how are you measuring the belt size? off the pulleys? off the original belt? Chiltons?

The Vtec solenoid is to the left of the valve cover behind the Dizzy. It looks like a mini pop can.

i'm not actually measuring, i am reading the belt lengths off the belts, i went in to autozone (first problem) and asked them to get the belts for my car exactly... 95 del sol SI sohc 1.6 liter vtec and they sold me the 3 belts that 'should' fit... none of them worked... so i took in the belts that came off the car and got some that were within acceptable length to be of use. I also had bought a replacement alternator from them earlier that day, which is what started this whole thing. the belt recommended for the alt was 77.5 mm, but the one i bought that actually fits is an 80mm belt...

because i ordered the alt for a Z6 motor and it came out to need almost 3cm more to fit the belt around it, i am thinking that the crank pulley, pulley on the alternator, or the motor is not original, or at least not to up specs... i am trying to narrow it down and see why i'm having this problem

https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=2090363

This started out being a simple alternator swap until i ran into all these problems with the belts...

is there a place that tells what the diameter of all the pulleys should be? or can somebody measure them because i don't have the tool for that

thanks

Sre you sure they did not give you the belts for the b16? They allways mix up the parts for my car and the SiR at the auto store by me.

Return the ones you have and get the correct sized ones. You have the measurements. Sometimes thats all you need.

I read your other post the first 2 belts are less then .5mm difference in size ever hear of something called belt stretch. Yes they can be a bit of a pain to get over the pulley but once on they have plenty of slack in them. as far as the 3rd one goes it really looks like it is to big. Good luck
