I suggest Magnaflow exhaust. It has a great sound IMO. I wouldn't go any bigger than 2 or 2.25" though if you are going to have a shop just custom bend something.

he's absolutely correct, and unless you killin horsies on boost you don't need bigger than 2.25-2.50 because you'll lose hp. i am gonna find out what 3.25-3.50 inch exhaust sounds like later though.

It seems to me that most exhaust for my accord are 2.5 though. I guess the question im asking is, what size should i go, which one will be louder(if any), and which will have the better converter. i guess i could get a long reasonator, right?

I custom made a 2.5" mandrel bent cat-back exhaust for my Integra. I also used the longest resonator I could fit along with a cheap straight through muffler. It was loud, too loud for my tastes 90% of the time. If I was to do it again with my Accord, I'd decrease the piping down to 2.25 and spring for a nicer muffler.

Most exhaust parts made for Accords are not bigger than 2.25. The muffler maybe, but not from the header back. Anything bigger you would have to get custom bent at a muffler shop. None of the after market systems are bigger than 60mm. They bump up to 70mm at the muffler.

The Bosal system I have on my Accord is stock EX exhaust @ 2.25 (57.65mm) from the header back. Into a single in dual out (1.5"x2 muffler). More than enough flow for most bolt on mods. Sounds really nice, no rice to it at all. It is loud and aggressive sounding when your on the gas. Then it turnes down a notch or two and is very quiet at cruising speed.

If your looking for rice. Save your $$$ and poke some holes in your current muffler. You will have then attained the fart sound. Plus it will look stealthy because you won't have a 6" spit polished coffee tin strapped under your carbon blackened rear bumper....

also depends on what motors in the car.......I switched to 3'' on my H22 and gained mass HP and Tq..think like this...they use 3'' exhaust on 2.0 GsRs why not an H22...I've argued this time and time again but with a modified header, 3'' exhaust, and a chipped p28 on crome and 45 mins of dyno tuning I gained 41 whp and 33 tq, again TO THE WHEELS not the crank...anyway...but 3'' is raspy as hell even with a resonator but if your not gonna turbo the car and wanna quiet "comfy" ride 2 1/2 with a resonator youll be fine

Has anyone ever thought of taking the factory muffler off and cutting it open and gutting in then welding it back together and sticking it on the car? How loud would this be?

The diameter of an exhaust system doesnt have anything to do with the sound. The size of the muffler and resonator what makes a exhaust sound like it is. Plus what kind of engine u also have. a inline 4 is doing to sound way different then a v6 even with the same exhaust setup. The V6 is firing more in a 720 degrees engine rotation. By some books and do research.

The sound of your exhaust can be attributed to alot more than a muffler and resonator. Everything from your air filter back to your muffler contributes to how your exhaust will sound. That also includes the size of all of these pieces including of course the engine. An exhaust tune can be changed just by reducing or enlarging one piece of this track. For example remove the stock 2" dia. intake tube and replace it with a 3"dia. one and listen to the difference that small change makes at the muffler. And that change is before the engine, nevermind the exhaust pipe.

I will agree that a muffler & resonator have a lot to do with the tone of the exhaust but not 100% of it. Increasing your exaust will cvhange the overall sound of your exhaust. Finding the right sound combination is up to you and your likes and disslikes. I have found that the larger the diameter, the deeper the tone when you punch it. That includes the Pipe, Resonator and Muffler.
