Default Engine Build Tools and Gadget thread.

Im going to be building my first engine soon, and am looking at tools as I speak.

So I figured why not make a thread so everyone can list the tools that they use, and give a brief review on quality and where they purchased them.

Most of the tools im looking to purchase from Tavia.

Right now im just looking at the essentials like:

Dial Bore/Calipers
Rod Bolt Stretch Gauge
Ring Compressor
And another set of feeler gauges.

this is my arsenal just a rough list of the common ****:

-0"-6" .0001" mics.
-sylvac digi caliper
-angled feeler gauges
-.0001" dial bore gauge 2"-6"
-bolt stretch gauge
-p ring pliers
-p ring comp.
-100 ft/lb. torque wrench
-honing stone block
-**** load of metric wrenches
-compression test gauge
-calculator, pencil, and eraser
-note pad
-assorted loctite products

i get my tools at a local tool distributor near my home he has good prices so i buy...there are many other things but this is a more than modest amount...

Good list above. An overhead valve spring compressor if you plan on changing springs/retainers.
Other crap:
-timing light
-32mm metric socket for the front hubs
-$200 to buy a bunch of other crap no-one else thought of

Lots of beer

save your self some money on some things if your only doing it once and rent or borrow the valve spring compressor, piston ring tools, spend the money on your calipers and torque wrench , and feeler gauges. buy lots of carb and brake cleaner and rags.

Has some decent stuff that some of you might be looking for. A little pricey but their customer service is excellent, and their shipping is real quick.

I know these guys used to do the goofy " this is the best set of tools and the only set you will ever need " ads on info-mercials for years , BUT, they really are a well made set of tools from Germany, and I tell you they really do work well.
I bought a set on a 1.00 AM on a drunken whim years ago, and yet they really do all that they claim.
As I do not always know the exact size wrench to use this set just makes it easier, and I have used it on US , Jap, German and Brit cars,..Not the cheapest and prob not the ultimate but a very good set to have at all times .
Two thumbs up here.
