Default MANIFOLD LEGOS

ok heres the deal, i have seen a set of "legos" that are used to mock up turbo manifold to use as a template, and they are expensive as hell, but i have the cash now so i need to know where i can buy them. i know there was someone that got on the forum that had a shop that would use this tool. i used the search button but i have had no luck.

does anyone have any info on this? please share!

thanks guys

I think they've priced themselves out of the market at $900/set

I have a ton of those, but they are made out of Steel.
i usually think out a design pretty good before actually cutting up the material im working with and when i do make a misscut or a improper angle it goes into a box for later. I personally like the challenge of eyeballing things and making it happen exactly how i want it with the first cut.

surely someone could duplicate these things or something similar for less than 900 bucks. and that price is bullshit no matter how you look at it.

It's a great great idea, just very expensive.

Just use blue masking tape to hold the pipes in place/together as you cut and assemble.
If you need the plastic pieces to build manifolds.....

$900 is how much they need to charge to make their business be successful.

If you need somthing like this to help you design or make your work more productive. I can see this being well worth the asking price. It'll bring a business more money in the long run. This wasnt intended Im sure for those just building 1 or 2 manifolds.

It's like when they first came out with foam mock up blocks they were pricey but the time they saved made up fo it.

I don't think $900 is unreasonable at all, if the made them in sch40 weld el sizes I would buy a set. This would speed things up no doubt.

I think in a long run, it will save you a lot of money... no wasting material, just one cut and weld... you can probably send the model to some shop and mass product it too...

imo, for some diy manifold builder, is not worth it. but for full time, professional manifold builder, who does it for living, it worth every penny.

That company is trying to make it seem like CAD programs are too expensive. You can get a student version of SolidWorks for $99. Or pirate it. When I make manifolds I use Solidworks, which will tell me when there is interference, which I can make parts in any shape, size, or CLR, and which I can use to print out cutting templates.

And if you're not a student, just sign up for a distance learning course from UCB or something. Still going to be a lot cheaper than $900!

ya but legos don't require you to learn how to use a program (or a computer). Especially if you're on a tight schedule and don't know clearances between firewalls and chassis tubes. If you've got the whole car modeled, the computer is awesome if not, it may not be.

God forbid you learn something new. I am still getting my copy of SW setup. I am a long time pro/E user, not too fond of it for doing piping layouts.

Previously I have eyeballed alot of header setups.

I get what the company is trying to do, and yes it could be used for a good business tool. Is it really necessary? Maybe, maybe not. All up to personal preference I would say. It is a neat idea, I just highly doubt that I would ever buy that.

Not to mention that just because you are a student does not mean you are legally allowed to use SW for anything. You would only be legally entitled to use the Student copy for learning the program or learning general design at an academic level not to make a profit off. Therefore if you are using it on a "job" building headers or something it is not being used as a student.

That seems to be pretty commonly mis-understood and most people probably don't care but I thought I would clarify that.

Not to toot the SW horn, but a full on package of solid works is cheaper than most packages. If you ask me, and I know nobody did, CAD is an awesome tool for any fabricator/engineer/designer/car geek to have. Not to mention you get cosmos bundled with it.

just like any fea program, cosmos can be helpful at times (the one comes with SW).
ive had problems with it taking too long to compile on the simplest things.
im liking Inventor right now, it also as fea.
