Default How to fix this rust near top of windshield and moonroof? 95 Civic 4dr

I know someone who can do body filler but doesnt know how to weld. Two rear arches will cost around $100 on http://www.rustrepair.com + cost of having someone weld in the panels. Does it look bad enough that I should get new panels put in?

And how much would some of you guys on here charge to clean this up where the sunroof is?

You've got cancer. The best way to deal with cancer is to cut it out, but if you can save panels it's not cheap. I manage a shop in Florida and you're looking at a minimum of $600 for the roof (you should pull the windshield) and $400 for the quarter. The fender is easy enough, it just bolts on, bolts off, so if you can't fix it, just get a new one, but you should be able to fix it based on what I see. This repair is quoted at $40/hr. with $22 for paint and material. This would be the minimum cost to have a reputable shop do it.

What would be done to the roof? All new metal?

The first two pictures are of the rear quarter panels.

You don't need the rust repair panels. Just cut and patch.

This is how far I had to cut to get clean metal.

It's more involved fixing it this way, and much harder to get an oem look when you splice through the center of a panel like that. Are you trimming sheetmetal from scratch to rebuild the quarter? I would have definitaley bought a quarter panel and replaced as a whole unit......just for the time saved, not to mention all the areas where rust will grow.

I would just grind the rust down and bondo it. Ive done that many times and fixed many rust holes. Bondo cost 10 bucks, a lot cheaper than $1000 to do it the welding way....

yea thats ok if you only plan on having the car for a short period of time because that rust will eventually come right back through the bondo. then you have a real mess, cracked paint and bondo AND rust. guess it all depends on what you plan on doing with the car...... if its just goin to be a daily beater than maybe you dont care about bondoing it up. but if its going to be more than that id definitly cut and replace the metal with patch panels.
