Default help with koni Yellow install!!!!

I got everything off, now I am piecing it together to put it back in. I am confused about what needs to stay and what needs to come off.

Do I need to take the bumpstop of the old shock?
The bracket that the brakeline bolts to is built in to the stock shock right? or does it come off, do I need to buy a new one?

The Damper mounting base does not fit into the Konis' rod, Do I need to buy an aftermarket one?

TIA

You should reuse the old bumpstops, trimmed a little, if your new shocks didn't come with new bumpstops.

The brakeline bracket goes bye bye. Use zipties to keep the brake lines in place. Make sure to check clearance with the wheel and tire once it's mounted. It will be somewhat close, so make damn sure it's not rubbing when turned or straight.

Damper mounting base? Do you mean the fork up front? It's not supposed to slide all the way up to the outdent on the Konis. About 1/3 of an inch of the shock should protrude through the bottom of the fork, IIRC.

Maybe you're talking about the rod up top? Yeah, Koni uses a thicker rod. You'll either need to get a machine shop to drill out the stock metal/rubber bushings or you'll have to get some cheapy polyurethane ones. I had the stock ones drilled since they are stiffer than the polyurethane ones.

I got it in.
Thanks for the reply.

I dremeled the Mounting base myself.
I was able to hammer the mount off the stock shock and mounted it on the Koni.

Whoa hold on there cowboy! You do reuse the brake line bracket on the KONI shock (front ones obviously). All you need is to spray the stock ones liberally with WD-40, then use a gear puller or something similar and pull them off (sometimes, they'll even come off by hand). Then just slide them onto the KONI's by hand making sure the tab lines up with the indentation towards the bottom of the damper (I know the instructions suck with KONI's, but if you look at them you'll see what I'm talking about with the tab and the indentation).

As far as the upper mounts, did you get the two metal cylinders with your shocks? (looks just like two little lengths of pipe). Well, you pull apart the upper mount (yes, the rubber bushings all come apart). You will see the same metal cylinder, however, as you've probably already discovered, the stock one doesn't fit over the KONI shock rod. You simply pull the Honda cylinder out, then reassemble the upper shock mount using the KONI cylinders and voila, no dremeling, cutting, nothing. It all fits. Let me know if you need any additional help.

Keith

I spent one long night figuring out all of this, because KONI's directions are NOT the greatest!

I put in the Koni cylinders but the shock rod still did not fit, the mount bushings(rubber ) have metal plates on either side that match the cylinder size so I needed to open them up alittle.

thanks

I personally think that dremeling that stock bushing is a bad idea. It's one of those things that should be as accurate as possible.

If you're trying to go the cheap route, just get the polyurethane ones from Energy Suspension.
