Going from 16" to 17" tires . . .
I just bought a set of (Acura TL) 17" wheels (55mm offset) for my '98 Prelude. I don't have any problem with them fitting, but I need advice on tires. I'm looking at 215x40-17 Nexen's or 215x45-17 Nankang. A buddy had Nankang's on his tuner Accord and they were great tires (very good ride and excellent cornering). Is a 40-series tire considered the correct size going from a (stock) 16" wheel to a 17"? Or is a 45-series tire correct? I don't want to effect my speedometer's accuracy.
45's will give you the extra cushion but will affect your acceleration.....
40's are where its at if youre insisting on 17's....
Nexen---Nankang???

i had 205/40/17 nankangs when i got my 17's they were soft hooked good but the tred wore fast and 3 of the 4 tires had broken belts by the 2nd summer of use. now i am running 215/40/17 toyo proxies 4's and love em. they ride nicer then nankangs and seem to be wearing better. nankangs are ok IMO but when you pay under$70 per tire you get what you pay for. if you dont always have alot of cash to keep buying tires save up and get good tires right away.

that was my first choice in wheels until many people told me that they weighed too much, so now im looking for some 17's off a rsx type s, but anyway 215/40 would be your best bet on tires.

Korean tires....
I don't trust anything from the country that brought us Daewoo, Kia, Hyundai.
Big fan of my Falken Ziex on my Civic for ~$50/ea/15"

I guess you don't like Kumho tires then?

Their RACE rubber was great(ran the Victo700's for 2yrs) other than that, their street tires have done nothing but sucked.....tried them twice!

Eh, all of my street cars use Kumho tires. Never had a problem with them on the P5, Miata, or Civic (when I owned the Civic). If you want an ultra high performance tire for the street, then there are better choices, but you can't beat $120 for tires for the Miata. They actually handle pretty damn good too!
