alright... im going across this bridge near my house at about 60mph (speed limit 55), on my way to work... just "cruisin'" and i hear this loud pop and something falls out from under my car. it appeared to be a small black piece (maybe 3" by 3"). at first i thought i ran something over. then my car starts to jerk around and smoke starts spewing out of my hood and my oil light comes on.

i instantly pull over... i pop my hood and check my oil because it looked like oil was dumping out of the back of the motor. the oil level was fine. i was almost to the end of the bridge so i rid it gently in first gear about a block to this parking lot. it drove like ****. when i get there i check the oil level again and there isnt a drop of oil left.

it seemed to be coming from the back and front of the block but i really couldnt tell.

my oil change was do... i had just hit 3000 miles on my last oil change the day before and i use full synthetic.

any ideas as to what could have happened. as it sits, in my opinion, i need a new block but i wont really be able to tell what happened until i rip the motor out. my friend said he thinks i blew the rear main seal but im not sure...

any advice or help is appreciated

did you figure out what fell off the car? im willing to bet that it has something to do with your problem. and the only way for oil to come from the back and front would be from the head gasket. you can tell if its the rear main seal by looking under the car where the transmission housing bolts up to the block. if youve got an aluminum dust cover on the block take it off and oil will come spewing out. or if you've got a sheet metal dust cover over the flywheel its probably already leaking oil. and you might be able to see some oil by looking into the timing hole on the tranny.

somethign similar happened to me a few years ago in my dads hyundai excel. it also made a loud popping sound and drove like ****, what i found on the road was half of a piston rod that was all bent.

 

ummm.. half a piston rod? if a postion is going to come out of anywhere its out the hood and thats if your racing the **** out of the car. first off when you drove that extra block was the motor making a knocking noise? if it was only running like **** i dont think it might have been internal damage, but either way find out where the oil is coming out of if its the head gasket then water maybe have gotten into your engine and that would be a gone engine for sure. just get a mechanic to check it out

 

ouch thats sucks was this on ur RHD prelude, but anyways how would you get a good reading of oil if the car was just running, oil would be all over the engine in head, oil pan, whatever you should of got a low reading of oil right away. hope its nothing big keep us posted.

i will check all of that out. someone on another forum said it might have been the pcv box?

yes, unfortunately it is on my rhd lude. that means that i either try and do the k24/k20 swap that i have been wanting to do or i do i slight engine build with the h22. i just didnt want to be forced into this situation but i guess things happen for a reason.

when i checked the oil i had turned the car off and waited a few minutes. i pulled the dip stick out, whipped it, stuck it back in and it gave a good measurement after that.

yes im 100% sure lol. it was half a piston rod and it blew out from the upper rear side of the block. i collected the pieces and showed some folks and also, i wasn't racing the **** out of it (c'mon an 87 hyudai excel lol). it was poorly maintained and it developed a really loud knocking sound and after a few weeks or so it just blew. i pushed that biotch home too with flip flops on haha
