alright, i have an 01' f4i. the problem is that every once in a while it will start "sputtering" (hopping/jerking around) as if it were misfiring. i replaced the spark plugs yesterday and the problem persists.
occassionally it will do it so bad that it back fires and my bike stalls. when it starts to jerk a little bit the FI (fuel injection) light comes on. it will go off and on while riding until the bike stalls, back fires, or it will suddenly just stop and the bike rides perfect again.
i thought the new plugs would fix the problem but i guess not. the only other thing that i could think of is it could be the injectors or the fuel pump?
any suggestions?

when i first got the bike it wasnt having this problem. it progressively got worse. i just got done doing body work and paint so i had to syphon out the gas. the tank was completely emptied, removed, painted, reinstalled, and refilled.

It could be bad gas, or a clogged fuel filter.

 

Do you buy the cheapest gas available?

 

where is the fuel filter located/how would i go about changing it?

and no... i put premium gas in all of my vehicles... always have and always will.
