I've got the stock in-dash radio/6-disc cd changer but the CD player doesn't work. I found a radio that is the same, execpt it has climate control and mine does not. I would think that the climate control feature is just extra brains in the unit and it should be a simple drop in. Am I wrong? Thanks

 

Obviously it is not the same if it has climate control features.

I would just suggest going aftermarket at this point.

 

I really like the stock player so i want to keep with that. I was thinking that there might be just a couple more wires in the harness that arent used in mine or another harness in the back that will plug into the new unit. If someone has some hands on experience with the seventh gen accords please advise.

 

No hands on experience behind the radio/climate unit, but I know it can be taken out and swapped for another ceramic piece and you can use an aftermarket headunit to put in also. I'm assuming you have an EX V6 or something like that?

 

well i have an EX 4cyl. Ive seen the aftermarket adapter, but if i could, i would like to stay with a stock unit.

 

I DO have hands on experience with my personal '03 Accord. I'm also an ex-Best Buy installer, so I do know at least a little bit.

Ok, first you need to do is register at http://www.the12volt.com and look up the wiring diagram for your year, make, and model. It should spell out every little detail for the wiring as far as colors, polarity, etc...

Second, you need to take inventory of every wire that you have vs. the wires that you find on that new radio and compare. If the plugs don't match exactly, you've got your easy answer, but if they seem to be just fine, then you might something going there.

The best thing I suggest to do (since it sounds like you're stuck on the factory look) is just try to find another radio just like your original one - same features/functionality and everything.

If you're ok with changing the look (only slightly) is to get a pocket replacement kit. It will eliminate your factory pocket just in front of the gear shifter. It will provide you with a solid 1-DIN hole for your new after-market unit, plus a small pocket under that for a few CDs and such. Now, the SWEET thing about doing this, is that you can actually remove the faceplate of the factory pocket and just place it back in it's original place. Just let gravity do its job and hold it in place. This will end up giving you a COMPLETELY FACTORY look from the outside of the vehicle. No more having to remove the faceplate every time you get out of the car. (Radio units without faceplates still get stolen, my friends!) Next thing you'll have to do is make sure that, when getting your wiring harness from your local car audio shop, you'll need to make sure that you get the forward AND reverse harnesses. You need the reverse harness as well so that you can still provide power to your factory radio so that the A/C controls and panels continue to light up. Made that mistake the hard way - couldn't tell how cold my A/C was running or how fast the fan speed was going either! Orange wires are key!

Just an FYI: if you couldn't tell already, the first option was the choice that I made, and I COULD NOT be happier. I heard nothing but trouble about the other replacement kits that replace the whole factory unit and provide you with a sweet looking 1-DIN opening. I DO NOT recommend going that route!

That's my advice. Take it or leave it. Just keep in mind that I've sold over 15 people on this idea, and not one has every come back and complained...just compliments!
