Default Valve lash problem

heres the setup

1mm oversized intake valves, some crower turbo cams (friends car), non vtec.

head was recently freshened up, valve seats were cleaned up, etc. we were adjusting valve lash tonight and its way too tight, adjustment doesnt go far enough to even get it close... smallest feeler we had was .003, and it was a "little tight". slight drag? negative. bend feeler guage.

are the valves too long? do they need to be tipped?

I'd mic the valves and be sure they are correct, then start pointing the finger. The valve seats were cut too deep in order to accomodate the wider seat is my guess. Generally it is advised that if you go with anything over a .5mm oversized valve, that you work with new valve seats. Most well known Honda head shops (Endyn for example) all use new seats for valves beyond .5mm over stock.

head is torqued down and everything is ready to go, so we're trying to get this in spec without taking the head off again...

we're going to try modifying a set of rockers and making a tool to compress the valves while the cam is in place.

Well, mod'ing the rockers is about your only choice if removing the head isn't an option. Remove some material from the adjusters on the rockers that contact the valve stem...what other choice do you have?

we took .140" off the rockers so that the ball sits that much farther in the rocker (making more adjustment). still nothin.
