Having axle seal problems with new spoon LSD in GSR tranny
when i installed the spoon LSD i exchanged the tapered roller bearings in for sealed ones, i removed a couple of shims to achieve the proper tolerance and now on the driver side of the transmission (clutch side) the actual differential sits in deeper. this didn't seem to be a problem at first. until i installed the axle seal, i pushed it in until it sealed around the shaft the surrounds the axle (sorry, idk the specific name) the seal pushed in so far that i have enough room to install another seal beside it that the gap is so large.
The problem is that idk if i should use the stock seal and have it sit in and not flush with the outside of the housing, or if i should try and find a seal that seals from the differential and the shaft that surrounds the axle, all the way to sit flush with the outside of the housing (already checked around at autozone and a couple of other stores, but haven't had any luck; and im not even sure if custom axle seals are even available)
i know that this is quite a bit to take in, but i will have pictures up tomorrow morning

you're driving the seal in way too far. it needs one and only one. the face of the seal should just barely sink under the top of the seal bore or be flush.

alright cool, for some reason i thought that it sealed on the sleeve
i'll mount the seal flush and see how it goes

that seal is backwards! and its in way to far. Put it flush with the outer part of the case</TD></TR></TABLE>
it's not backwards, it's just the design of it, if it was backwards you would be able to see the lips

If you are going from 2pc tapered bearings you will need to get offset bearings that have a taller inner lip. You cannot use the 6208 bearings with different spacers. Seems like that is what you are trying to do?
It will be a Clip that has verying thickness depending on what clearance number you are trying to acheive. Not a shim set up on both sides of the bearing like a taperred bearing. Totally different setup my friend.
Also....throw that seal away and get a new one. That deep gash in the sealing surface may also present a problem if you are sliding the seal up and down on it. I never use a seal twice.
