B18C1 connecting rod order - New member - PLEASE HELP
hey everyone new to the forum. joined because I couldn't find info after an hour of searching online. Im usually building Toyota's but my friend brought over a 95' GSR. needed to be finished. Basic rebuild. Everything was brought back from the machine shop ready to go in but the rods were in no particular order and theres no 1,2,3,4 markings or any of its order. I tried to figure out the dots that are casted on the connecting rod cap but cant figure those out. Thought it would have a 1,2,3,4 arrangement or coincide. Ill take pics as soon as I get a hold of my camera. 2 rods marked "2" and 2 rods marked "3"! I have the vehicles manual but nothing as to which order they go. It just mentions to put them in the order they were taken out and I didnt do the tear down myself! Thank you. Or if you can lead me in the right direction to a forum or link!
PICS
Heres the pics. i highlighted the casting dots on it if that really matters now. i know wut P72 is already, thats obvious. Thx for the input

those numbers on the rod are for bearing size. doesnt matter which order they go in, the only thing i would do is face the numbers towards the intake side. and also i would high recommend useing plastigauge too when installed and torquing down the bolts.
The bearing tangs go to the exhaust side...And as said before there is a chart in the service manual that tells you which bearings to order based on the numbers on the crank and the connecting rods.
just my opinion but i always believed in keeping the rod on the journal it came on,as they may have wore some. i cant believe the machine shop didnt mark them. i would take them back and have them resized and stamped with the with the corisponding journal. do it right or dont do it at all
K24EM2 - I dont need to know what side the bearing tangs go on. Thats obvious bro. You cant put it in backwards. Goes in only one way. I already have the bearings as well to.
4gHatch - I agree with you 100%. I always like to keep the same rod on the same journal and not move them around as Turbo B18C said that the order that they went in didnt matter. Ive been building Toyota engines for years and thats how I do all my builds. As i mentioned, I didnt do the tear down. The machine shop should have etched or marked them. I think Ill have to tell the guy to take them back. Thx for the input.
Anyone else have input on this?

hey i def agree with you there not moving rods to different journals. always put parts back where they were from when assembled. i just figure since u didnt do the the tear down like u said i would answer your question about the numbers on the rods
.
.
Location of rods doesnt matter but bearing to crank journal does. The number on the side of the rod coincides with a letter or number on the crank to get your bearing size. For example.

This one is for a B16a motor and not to sure if its the standard for your motor so dont rely on it for sizing.

IMALLSLO Thx for the input but I dont think this really matters in my situation. Especially if the crank is going to be re-sized for oversized bearings. I think thats only if you plan on using STD bearings.
Thx everyone
