Default PieCut DP fab

I had to make some weird turn for my new DP and the only way I could think of was doing some pie cuts. Never done them before, so out came the sawzaw. Piping is some of that thin **** from the autoparts store.

Lol I know most two year olds can weld better than me, but it was free and im just teaching my self as I go along. My setup is more of a budget build than one going for huge numbers. Flame away

its not as bad as the HMT transition pipe we saw 2 weeks ago.

cutting pie cuts with a reciprocating saw.... f*$k that, for getting your all your pie cuts the same size with a sawzall.

Definitely cant knock your work man. Everyone starts somewhere, and you will only get better. I know it was a pain in the @ss to cut those with a sawzall too.

LOL well **** I've seen worse actually. Try adding a little more voltage and lose some wirespeed next time and travel slower. You aren't maintaining your puddle at all just kind of letting it pop and spit as it may. Try to get a puddle started and then move it instead of just traveling at random with no regard for how the puddle is acting.

It just takes practice man. Remember to ALWAYS watch the puddle.

Yes I imagine that was a hooker to weld though. I hate that cheap auto store thin ****.

Why do people continue to use this technique? You can buy bends that will do that without and look good. It is a waste of time, flows awful, and looks like ***. Just buy a donut and cut what ever length bend you need and weld it into your system.

Here is an example of a compound bend made using 2 90 degree bends cut at different angles and then fitted together

Understand compound angles, use them all the time. Just don't understand taking a straight piece of tubing and pie cutting it into a 90deg bend.

Thanks guys. LOL I didnt expect the comments to be so,.. gentle. The reason for me using the piecut method is well b/c I dont have any mandrel bent bends just laying around. I did however have a straight piece of tailpipe available. So i made use of it. It'll work for now Thanks

Unless you are trying to improve your welding skills by practicing, this is completely useless and an utter waste of time and materials.

Well, there is only one way to improve, and that with more practice

Why not just buy a 3in donut and cut the exact peices you need. Then you don't have to deal with that.

That downpipe we did was 4", and donuts cost quiet a bit more than its worth, same with 4" stainless bends, much cheaper in material to do pie cuts.
