1998 4DR EX 4 cycl, would turn key and instrument panel would light up but no cranking, would try several times and then it would crank over and run fine. Then it quit starting all together, I would hear the starter click but no attempt at cranking. I removed the starter took it to two auto parts stores and both said it was fine. YeuEmMaiMai related that I should check the starter relay. Anyone able to help me out with location and diagram of relay? The ignition recall was completed in Nov of 03. Thanks

Is it the Starter Cut Relay that I'm looking for............anyone............anyone???????

 

Found and changed Starter Cut relay, still only click in starter, any other suggestions? I still thinks it's the starter. Service Manual suggested jumping from positive battery terminal to the solenoid terminal and I still only get click in starter! Battery appears to be in order and clean connections, I'm running out of thoughts, I hate to spend 130 on a new starter and still not start, any suggestions????

Thank You so much Honda-Master, I was beginning to believe that I was creating a blog and not a thread. I'll pull the battery and charge it tonight to make sure it wasn't that. I had a buddy with his f350 try to jump it and we had no luck, could it still be the battery?

 

If the starter won't crank with jumper cables to a bigger car, then it seems like the battery isn't the problem. You can check the battery cable connections for loose, corrosion, dirt, etc. AT BOTH ENDS of BOTH cables.

And check the starter interlock circuit like you originally said (or maybe you've already done that).

 

Well it was the starter after all, I little note to all, If you take a starter to Autozone or like place, realize that the starter is not under a load and may engage on their bench but not have the ability to start your motor.
