i know i did the search and all cat threads didn't answer my question..
but my cat has gone out on my 2000 honda civic ex. not completely but it makes a growling noise like broken particles are inside. well i passed inspection right before it starting making noise. it sounds like im turbo or something. no cel is on at the moment, yet. i need this fixed.
so my question is, is there any oem/hi-flow replacement cat converters that will pass inspection next time? other than buying a oem one. cause those things can be $$$
and i don't want to run into problems in the future.
thanks!

If you can get a used one from a friend, that will be your cheapest solution. Other than that, there are plenty of companies that make direct fitment of catalytic converters for your application.

All those OBD-2 high flow cats that wont give you any CEL's only last about 2 years anyways so keep that in mind. Yes, try to find a used one from a friend or junkyard. Good luck.
If i was in your situation (no smog here in hawaii) i'd run a REPUTABLE high flow cat like carsound on the street and keep another stock cat (say if you got one from a friend) on the side. And when smog comes around and if you feel like the high flow cat wouldn't pass, just slap on the stock cat. Its only 5 bolts and is relatively painless to change out.

lol i was thinking that. but i think the inspection in houston,tx is really strict. i'll probably go for a hi-flow replacement, but if i find a oem then cool.
thanks guys!

inspection here isn't bad at all, i have a really crappy high flow cat and i passed. So get a good brand high flow cat and you should have no problems. Otherwise go with OEM that gave me better passing results in the past.
