Bouncy MPH gauge
alright me and my girl were driving in her 93 civic dx automatic, and we were just driving normal no beating on it, and the MPH gauge on the cluster started freaking out bounceing really fast between 40mph and 60mph, what in the heck can cause that to happen?
vss [vehicle speed sensor].
did you end up throwing a code? i mean, it may not always throw a code. when mine went bad, it didn't. but definitely the vss. it's located on the back of the trans. the sensor itself has a tower-plug thing that you can disconnect. make sure it's not loose or anything. and it's also held in by a 10mm bolt. kinda hard to get to tho. but get back to us.

lol?
yeah man. i'm 98 % positive. i mean, it CAN be your cluster, but i doubt it'll go bad so suddenly, unless you suck.
...
but yeah. i'm almost positive it's the vss. if you have any further questions just ask.

Same thing that happens to me, right now. It will progressively get worse and sometimes the needle will stay at 0, then pop up to your speed. I am ordering a new sensor and that should take care of the problem.
Your prob may be different. I have a 97 ex and it has the mph needle droping sometimes, its not the vss like the others probs but rather the speedo head on the back of the cluster is going out. Time to buy a new cluster. The good news the problem is 1 of 2 areas, cluster or VSS.

I believe it's the VSS since the speedo can act normal half of the time.
