2000 b16 swap into 96 civic
You have to get b-series mounts. Use the b-series harness and ecu, but yes, as far as swapping engines go all b-series are pretty plug and play.

anyway, moved into hybrid because there is a wealth of info in there and lots of people who are in the same boat as you

wrong, wrong and wrong
you can't use a 99-00 harness on 96-98, and you don't have to change your motor mounts just have to use the 99-00 Si brackets and you can't use the 99-00 Si computer on a 96-98 either

O RLY?
Please, elaborate. His new motor will have all the "99-00 sensors, thus he'll need the 99-00 harness, thus needing the 99-00 ecu.
No, you're right. He doesn't HAVE to use the mounts, but it would be easier to.
Again why can't he use a different ecu in his car? That makes no sense. My brothers originally obd2 96 integra is running an obd1 ecu and an obd1 motor and harness.

because 96-98 are obd2a and 99-00 are obd2b. if you use a 99-00 harness on a 96-98 then you will have one less plug at the ecu. It just flat out doesn't work and this is from EXPERIENCE I'm not just pulling it out of my ***. Anyone that has done a few swaps knows this
I've done two swaps thank you very much. Just use a jumper harness or swap the ecu's. We did this on a 97 dx with a 99 y8 swap. We used the 99-00 harness, and just plugged it into the 99-00 ecu for the first few weeks before we chipped a p30.
That's why you CHANGE the ecu, so the harness DOES plug in.

No, you can't just change the harness, it has to be for that motor and that ecu.
All the OP has to do is use the 99-00 b16a2 harness, plug it into the P2T.
it doesn't matter that the original motor was obd2a. The new on is obd2b, so the harness and ecu should be if you're retaining a stock ecu.
Besides, if you use an obd2a harness on an obd2b motor you're probably missing a few sensors and if you try to use the correct ecu for the motor then it will throw a cel.

No you weren't very clear.
The harness/ecu/engine are all interchangeable, so the fact that the motor is obd2a/b can be changed as well.
We put obd2b motors in obd1 and obd2a all the time. It's a matter of either a jumper harness, or using the right ecu. Either will work.

It's 100% plug and play, use the b16a2 motor, obd2b harness, and p2t ecu. It will work.

On a 96-98 chassis?
he's putting a 00 motor, in his 96-98 chassis, if he uses the obd2b harness it will plug into the p2t obd2b ecu.

ok let me explain further, 96-98's have three plugs coming through the firewall to the ecu and 99-00's have only two coming through the firewall and the third plug is part of the dash harness so if you use it on a 96-98 you'll be missing the third plug. And just so you guys know I do swaps for a living and have done so many I lost count. Also I have owned a bunch of 96-98 and 99-00 Ek's as well as Dc2's and Eg's and have done every motor from D's to k20's so I know my ****. I'm sorry if I came off like a hard *** I just wanna help this guy get the right stuff, just like you do. So if you guys don't believe do a search as this swap been covered a zillion times on here

And how hard is that to change?
A simple jumper harness would solve the problem. Like with other obd issues.

you would have to install a whole 99-00 dash and dash harness, but the easiest solution would be to get a 96-98 Ex engine harness and use that

Correct. But when We did an obd2 b18b1 swap into a 99 civic we just got a jumper harness and it solved all but the o2 sensor issue. That's what I was implying, I figured it was a given.

Q:when swaping engines out of 96-98 / 99-00 civics i leave the harness on the motor so it has to come out the cars cabin correct?
A:Correct
Q:so that means in order for the harness to come out the ecu has to be unplugged correct?
A:correct
now i dont remember if the dash harness plugs in to the ecu because i didnt take the ecu out but.....
Q:then if thats the case a 99-00 si dash harness will make the swap plug n play correct?
A:correct

yes you are correct, except that on 96-98's all three plugs are coming from the engine harness so you won't have a plug from the dash harness on your car, but on 99-00 the engine harness has only two plugs coming to the ecu and the third is in the dash harness. so ya if you used the 99-00 dash harness it would work, but getting a 96-98 Ex engine harness and putting that on the b16 would be a whole lot easier.
