2006 civic si vs itr question
I was recently thinking about selling my itr and buying an '06 Civic SI. The only thing holding me back is the rarity of the car I own currently. I like the way my ITR looks compared to the SI, but the power seems to be equivalent on both models. My main question is handling. I am aware that the new SI has factory LSD (as do all of our ITRs!!), but rarity (and handling) have played a huge role in my liking for my Type R as well.... which vehicle is better in you guys' opinion? ESPECIALLY when it comes to handling. I love a car with excellent handling. Which one is better in that category? Any general feedback is appreciated. Thanks!

The use of McPherson struts on the recent Honda compacts such as the new Civics always struck me as the result of a compromise - a packaging/cost/impact rating compromise.
Honda supposedly improved the suspension geometry of the strut setup for the new Civics, versus the 2001-2005s (and the 2002-2006 RSX). I haven't heard much of anything in the way of the new Si handling "better" than a DC2 ITR, though.
There are many complaints about the "rev hang" and lagging throttle response of the DBW programming in the Civics, even after a TSB.

I too have thought about doing this. Mainly for the fact that the car is fairly equal, but the kicker for me was the Si had a factory warranty......
But alas, I'm sticking with the ITR. The rarity won me over. And ever since I knew what an ITR was it's been my dream car.
Stick with the R. You'll be happier in the long run. All of my friends that have Si's, wish they could have an R.

I appreciate the feedback! Like I stated earlier, I love my ITR. When I bought it, daily driver comfort wasn't a factor (and it still isn't- a year later). I can give up luxury in a heartbeat; I lean toward vehicles with track performance and substantial power. That's basically what I'm asking (long story short). Thanks again!

The way I understand it, the revs hold for about 1, maybe 2 seconds before slowly falling. This was intentionally programmed by Honda for emissions and fuel efficiency reasons, but owners have complained that the behavior of the car is annoying, with bucking during upshifts, for example (especially in lower gears). It seems to be something that people get used to, or "drive around".. change their shifting methods, wait an extra second before engaging the clutch on an upshift.

i ordered an '07 Si before i bought my ITR. Once I looked at the ITR, I went right down to the honda dealer and got my deposit back on the Si and bought the ITR and have never had a regret about it.

What are people dropping into their Older Civics and Integras?
oh yeah
K- Seris
im not saying selling your car. ITR is a nice car dont get me wrong but the FG2's aftermarket grows more it will be beyond the DC's in terms of suspension/chasis
my $0.02

There are so many factors that we really need more input from the OP.
An Si you can DD, bring to mall, park outside ect...
The ITR could do the same if you live in a semi-rural area like I did in western Mass, but in most places the R will be hunted down like a dog.
The nice thing about the Si is that it holds its value, so buying one and driving it for a year and then trading it in won't break the bank.

There were revisions to the DBW system in 2007 model year to address the issues that performance oriented drivers had with the throttle holding revs between shifts.
You might want to look at Ross's Roadfly review on Youtube for an ITR owner's review of the Civic Si. He liked it.
People who say that the McPherson system is a compromise are right. The only way to have enough metal on the nose of a small car to meet the five star crash ratings is to have a McPherson suspension. Again, though, Honda addressed the issues of enthusiasts by designing the suspension so that the struts reclined toward the cabin, giving greater travel than the struts had in the EP3 and DC5.
They also moved the tie rod off the strut and onto the hub where it should have been in the first place. The steering rack is also extremely low.
The design of the DC2 ITR is 11 years old, now.
The world doesn't stand still, technology doesn't stand still. For just about the same amount that you paid for an ITR, you can pay for a 2007 Civic that performs as well as an ITR, has better accommodations, and is a lot safer.
I love the DC2 ITR, but c'mon, guys. Let's be logical.

DC2R or an FGSi?
[TOS problem removed.]
No, seriously, I like the FG Civics, I'm actually quite fond of them. But I would never substitue my Type-R for one. I'd substitue my Type-SH for one in a minute, but not the Type-R. My recommendation, is if you truely appreciate what the Type-R is, KEEP IT!

This is about the only good post in this thread. All the others are circa 1997 when the ITR was on top of it's game. Now? It's not. It's an obsolete design and obsolete technology. Save for the hardcore fan base who are still drooling over the Type-R name and still believing the hype, everyone has moved on.
I say take the SI....k-series is lightyears ahead of the b-series no matter what anybody says. It's one thing to still take pride in an ITR, it's quite another to say it's still the top dog or even close to it.

Again...what is the type-R? It's an outdated design with an outdated engine. It's last week. Come into 2007.

i like my civic si, a lot thus far...despite some menial problems that will be addressed soon...
it's great for a daily drive and probably auto-x, rr...but it will never be an ITR or a replacement of one...it's too comfy, and doesnt have that soul the itr has...

**** dude, you need to phone all the Formula 1 teams ASAP and tell them their double wishbone setup is an obsolete design and to get into 2007!
you praise GK for the best post in the thread and then make the worst one yourself
i'm guessing you have a DC5 with a technologically inferior suspension setup and have a planetary mass chip on your shoulder.
yes its old technology, YES its good fun to drive, NO, nobody gives a **** that its not modern.
you may be just trying to bait people, in fact i hope you are.

Even with all the chassis bolstering that goes on, the stiffness of the DC2 cannot match that of the EP3 or FG2.
The new Civic Si will perform about as well, stock for stock, as a DC2 Type R.
But the Civic Si does it more safely and with a degree of comfort that isn't to be found on the older DC2, IMHO.
So, sure, the DC2 ITR is old stuff. But you'll have a hard time proving that with lap times, stock for stock.
