Default ultra mega squeaking when car is moving

hi guys, this just started happening on my car today (91 crx si). basically as soon as the car moves forward at any speed whatsoever, whether I am on the gas or not, there is an awful squeaking noise (this is LOUD) that just will not stop, no matter how fast I go. It seems to be coming from the rear of the car. I tried manually pushing the car forward, and there is still this horrible noise. I assume it is some type of brake issue or maybe the calipers are seized or something?

The weird thing is I drove it around for a bit while it was making the noises to try and figure out what it was, then all of a sudden all of the noise stopped and it seemed normal. so i let it sit for a while and started it again to see if there was still a problem. sure enough, the squeaking noises are back now. I was going to take it to a shop unless anyone has suggestions.

thanks in advance for any replies or help

Dragging brake or stuck caliper would be my guess.

To check, jack the rear of the vehicle up, take the tires off and rotate the rotors manually. If they make the noise, you've found your problem.

That, and is the noise coming from the inside or outside? Is it mechanical squeaking or bodypart squeaking? More information would help.

The hatch can cause a ruckus too if the bushings fall out.

But yeah, your pads are probably worn out and you are riding on the squeeler.

the noise is definitely coming from the outside. it sounds like a mechanical squeaking, so i dont think its the hatch. it also seems to be making noise on both sides of the car from the rear. not sure if that helps you guys to diagnose the problem any better. im going to jack it up and check if i can manually rotate the rotors.

check your pads. I had the SAME issue, but it came from the front. Break pads have a wear indicator that scrapes the rotor and makes a weird squeaking/scraping sound. Good luck.
