Default HELP- Painting my Rims Black

I own a 1993 Honda Civic EX Coupe and recently had it painted black. The problem is the rims are still the matching color with what it was before. I need to know what is the best method for painting the rims black, what kind of paint to buy, where do i get it? ETC...

Duplicolor makes a quality wheel paint in a variety of colors and it's sold at WalMart, Autozone, etc.

Yep, best choice if you know how to use a spray can.

For best results, get them powder coated though.

yeah get the dupli color paint , it works good . just scuff the parts that you want painted really good and tape up the lip ( if you still want it polished) ....make sure you let the paint dry in between coats

the key to doing a great paint job, is prep. scuff the surface very well with a 500 grit. after that clean really good with some isopropyl alcohol. then hit it with the **** can.

Aircraft paint stripper (looks as though there is paint on your rims already) then wipe it away. Use Simple Green to remove excess dirt, scuff with some high grit sand paper, then clean again with soap, water, and rag. Duplicolor primer, and then the Duplicolor paint of your choice. To paint, do one thin coat and let it dry. Scuff lightly with high grit sand paper, now do your second coat pretty wet (but not dripping) and let it dry for a day. Wetsand with the highgrit sandpaper, lightly. Now get some clear coat (Duplicolor!) and spray them down, and let them dry for TWO days. This is a little long, but it ensures the clear coat is hard which forms a great protective shell for your paint, and brake dust and debris won't penetrate it. I personally wax and buff em now (make sure you know how, so you don't burn your new paint), then put em back on the car.

I've done this at least 8 times already to random salvage yard rims.. (I love white rims, lol.)

Now, if you live on, or drive across a crappy road all the time, its your best bet to strip em' down, clean them, and find someone who can powder coat them so they will actually last and wont look like crap in two months.

I have a different opinion, Duplicolor sucks. It doesnt shine. Its flat and dull. It sucks. I would just get a can of Rustoleum gloss black enamel and use that. The rustoleum has somewhat of a shine to it. Not good enough to paint a whole car but on the wheels it will look pretty good.

i've used duplicolor for wheels, and it came out great. Most people thought I bought new black rims/red lip. Maybe you saw a poor job done w/o clearcoat?
