Default well i need help. wont idle

my car wont idle, it dies in neutral, but when you put it back into a gear and let off the clutch itll start up and drive. i dont get this. im in fifth gear, i put it in neutral it dies, i put it in third and it my car is driving again. i didnt have to start it either.

none of my EGR is hooked up, nor do i have an intake. its running straight from the IM. all my EGR stuff is plugged up with little black caps. i dont know what is under the IM but none of that is hooked up either. car starts, then dies if you dont hold the gas.
its a 93 H23.

Well, the only part of this that makes sense is the fact that it will start driving again. With the keys in the ON position, the distributor is always on. It just reads engine speed to decide when to fire, so that part is fine. The trans gets the engine spinning again and off you go.

Now about the stalling problem. Does it run really rough or it just won't idle?

itll start then as the rpms settle it dies.

then i get a rough idle for about 2 mins or so then it just idles at 1K rpm. and it will stay that way. i figured out my neutral problem. so thats fine. just this idle sucks. would the cold idle start be causing this?

also none of my ground wires are hooked up, just noticed that. ill fix that and see what happens

no but here:

the negative terminal on the battery should ground right to the radiator support and then to the transmission.

There is a 10mm bolt on the driver's side of the valve cover that should have a ground wire that goes to both the engine mount and the chassis.

The ecu ground is on the thermostat housing, it is a square washer looking kind of thing that goes behind one of the bolts, two(maybe 4?) wires come into it to get grounded.

check those, as they are the main ones.
