how do gears work in a tranny...
ok, i keep reading things where people say 1-5 Si and dx final drive. ( just an example with choice of gears) if you have a 5 speed manual, i thought all you would have is 1st - 5th? it sounds like everybody is saying that when you shift to 5th, you have another hear in there or something? just confuses me. sorry to be so stupid, and also while i am being retarded and un-knowledged...WTF does STD stand for....standard? sorry. don't laugh at me...my friend asked the same thing too. maybe i have been in NC too long, need to go back to NY. thanks

STD = standard
also, 1-5 Si gears and DX final drive would be the same thing as a DX tranny. the Si and DX 1-5 gear ratios are the exact same, while the Si final drive is higher than the DX final drive.

THink of it this way - in a traditional american front engine, rear wheel drive car you've got the transmission with the 1-5 gearing, then the driveshaft goes to the rear end (final drive) - inside the final drive is a set of gears (and they are not 1:1 ratio!!). THe Honda tranny has to pack all the 1-5 gears and the FD in the same box.
By the way, an Si has the exact same 1-5 gear ratios as a DX, the only gearing difference between a DX box and the Si is the FD ratio: 4.250=Si, 3.888=DX

If you think that's the reason you don't understand trannies maybe you do need to go back to NY.
