DA Alternator take out/install
Sorry I'm trying to help my friend install an alternator on a DA and I have never done that before. (coming from EGs) but I looked on the FAQ and didn't see it. Anyone have a link for direct instructions on how to do it? We have a general idea but just want to make sure. Sorry for this noob thread.
I requested a short story for a title.

well i have had mine out 3 times in the past year so maybe i can be of some help its really no that hard if you do it right.
The easiest way to do it is to pull it out throught the bottom. 1st jack the car up and make sure it is stable, then once your underneath there is a bracket that holds the intermediate shaft to the block, take out those three bolts that hold it on. Once there all out turn it so it is facing down you might have a little trouble getting it past a metal piece down there but it will come with movement.
Then unbolt the tension bolt at the top of the alternator and slid it forward to take the belt off. There is another bolt underneath as well that needs to be taken out.
Oh ya and dont forget to disconnect the battery and unhook all the wires.
Even with all the bolts out it still might be a bear to get the bottom of the alternator out of the bottom bracket, but keep rocking it back and forth and it will come. After that the pain in the *** part comes. You have to turn the alternator a certain way to get it out of the engine bay, it is a tight fit and has to come out just perfect. I have found that there is just enough room in the cv joint that you can pull the whole cv joint out of the tranny and it will come out fairly easy. IT WILL BE FRUSTRATING so take it easy and take your time. its a piece of cake to slide back up in there though
hope this helps let me know if you have trouble
