I'm wanting to boost my 2000 civic si, but having trouble deciding on how. My main concern is keeping it emissions legal, I live in CO. I've read a lot about this stuff but am still confused. What are my options for engine management if i build my own turbo kit? I can't convert to OBD1 for emissions reasons, so what do i do? is the Hondata s300, as sold with the JRSC high boost kit, an OBD2 ecu?

hondata doesnt offer any thing for the obd2 ecus. s300's are installed only in obd1 ecu.

you can use an obd1 conversion harness, for hondata. and then when you need to get inspected convert the car back to stock for the day(stock injectors, stock ecu, stock map sensor, pull the wastegate spring). some people do that.

you basically have to do this, convert, and unconvert when you need to go through inspection. OR go ghetto and just use an fmu.

i dont know of any obd2 programable ecu's.

 

thanks for the answers. when you say FMU, what specific products are FMU's? is greddy emanage an FMU? is that basically just a piggy back? why is it ghetto, because of tuning limitations?

 

fmu is a fuel management unit, its a mechanical device that increase fuel pressure relative to boost.

the emanage is different its a piggy back ecu control. trust me the accuracy of an chipped obd1 ecu tune is worth the one day a year you have to convert it back to stock for an inspection.

ok, what does the JRSC use for management? or do they just let you figure it out? I thought it came with something but don't remember for sure.

Is that all you have to change back for an inspection? wastegate spring so you aren't boosting, ecu harness and obd1 ecu swapped for obd2 ecu, injectors back to stock, that it? the colder t-stat probably wouldn't need to be changed, nor the plugs, right? that may have to be the route i go. I want to get over 200whp, but i want it to last too and i understand the importance of a good tune. not looking to build a race car, but i want it faster.

 

the jrsc has a mechanical FMU
also called rising a rate fuel pressure regulator.
vortech started callin them Fmu's way back in the early 90's if i remember
