salvage ITR... worth it?? would you buy one?
i came across a salvage type r. the price is nice. $7k, BUT not original motor. instead, it is a gsr block with jdm itr pistons. the motor rebuild has receipts and has been done by a reliable shop with only 5k on it! itr head and perfect itr tranny.
so besides the block not being original, the interior is also not type r. it is gsr black leather. OH, and the 5 lug is missing...
do you think it's worth $7k? the paint is in great condition.
just so tempting...

I would pass. I would only buy a salvaged R if the price is right, and in the right condition. I don't trust other peoples' work. There is only a minute percentage of people who do the work "right" the first time.
Hold out, save your money and invest it in another car.
My buddy is in a jam, he will see you a stock 98' with 110K for ~12k. PM me for details.

just to give you a point of reference on salvage ITR... I bought mine for 10k...
not orig motor, but newer B18C5 w/ under 40k miles... 88k on chassis... stock.
missing armrest, drivers mirror, front lip
plenty of dings and chips in paint...
replaced parts:
red recaros
momo wheel (no airbags)
2.5 catback w/out cat
illuminas + GC
rear tie bar, generic
so, I agree with the assessment, you could do better...

its not a horrible deal, i mean the swap sounds fine depending on head/tranny,
the interior is like 800 for f/b seats, then you can sell your leather for atleast 400.
then you can sell the 4lug brakes for like 300, dont know what wheels but assuming theyre like gsr than you can sell those for like 3-400 and pick up 5lug with wheels for 14-1500
so if the exterior is in great condition and complete with lip, etc than its not that bad of a deal if you want to put in a little work, but driving a itr with 4lug, gsr leather, and a c1 is kinda ghetto,

i think its a good deal .the interior is easy to fix and the motor .sell the gsr put 1k more and buy the type-r one you pay 7k and put 2k you got complete type-r for 9k thats cheap ..well its up to u . if i had the money i will buy it :D

what auction and junk yards??
what auction and junk yards??
Not a bad deal, but, I'd offer lower. Maybe $5-5.5K? The 5 lug and interior is an extremely easy fix, and as mentioned earlier, there is someone out there that will want to buy the gsr parts to help compensate for the new 5 lug and interior. You can always buy the b18c5 block later on since you already have the head and tranny. If the paint/body/body parts are cherry and complete like you said, I'd pick it up if it were under $6k.
yah, i guess you guys are right. i should probably save up some more money and buy a legit R.
BUT, if i could get the car for $6000, that'd be worth it, right? cuz then i'd only need like $1500 + 700 (5 lug and interior) to make it a whole type r basically. i wouldnt mind the block stamp saying it's a b18c1 because if the papers say there are jdm type r pistons in it and compression is at 255 in all 4 cylinders on paper which was built from a legit shop, it's essentially a type r right? the tranny is a lsd type r tranny which is in perfect condition. i drove the car.
so $6000 and get it? good deal?

check my sig......u can get a shell with 5lug for 1500

it's worth whatever you're willing to pay for it. considering this car, you're paying pretty much for the Type R body... the engine, suspension (and wheels, therefore), interior, etc. are all not from an R. as for me, i would definitely not pay much more than $6k. good luck
IMO its not worth it for that price, you can get a type r shell from auctions and junk yards for $1000
i sell everything i have to buy a type-r for this price...lol

if you want an "R" save a couple of G's and get one that actually has more "R" stuff than a GSR
