My Civic broken into (Vtech chip stolen)
I have a 1993 Black Honda Civic with vetech and I got off work last tonight at 10:00 pm. I work at a large grocery store so they make the employee's park in the very back of the store. I get to my car, unlock the door, sit down. I notice my radio was gone, and just wires and plugs remaining. I did buy a brand new $129.99 Kenwood MP3/CD deck about 5 months ago. I was upset but thought no big deal, I'll get a cop out here, I have my reciept for it..this is not the worst part at all.....
The officer arrives and notices that my Honda Civic's Vtech computer chip was gone. He asked me to try and start the car and it wouldn't start. He told me just last week another honda civic within 5 miles of here had the same chip stolen from the car. I don't know much about Vtech or the chips it needs to run but right now I need to know what I should do.. My car is still sitting in the parking lot and the insurance company I am with will get it towed back to my house sometime tommorow. What exactly did the theif take, and how much will it cost to get my car running again.
I filled out a sworn statement about what had happened and can't sleep.
I'm very stressed and upset. I also have tickets to the jaguars game this thur and planned on driving up there and now I don't know what I'll be doing.

if someone stole your vtech chip, simply press the page button and listen for the beep.
it may take a while for you to hear it, but hopefully its nearby.
actually you're talking about the ECU i'm guessing....the cars computer.
you need to check ebay/craigslist/dealership for a new p28 ecu, hopefully the thieves didn't cut the wires....do you even know where your ecu is supposed to be?

U R lucky it was only that little stuff. Orlando/sanford surrounding areas have a huge rash of car theives stealing anything honda. They got mine and I had mad security, including alarm/kill switches....And security video, which now I have great footage of them stealing my car to remember it by....
VTEC is spelled V-T-E-C, vtech is a freaking phone for your house.
The easiest way for you to fix your situation is find another ECU for your car. Down in the passenger kick panel area behind the carpet is the computer for the car. Find another online or at a junkyard with the same part number and you'll be up an running.

So, "Thelogic", do you understand? Its not that big of a deal. All you need is a computer. Its on the passenger side under the carpet, not far from the speaker location on the door panel. Your lucky they didn't take your whole car. They love that damn "VTECH"! hahahahaha
you guys don't have to be such hardasses on the ******* newb.
and for those of you that weren't, gj.
but please. this guy just got **** stolen from his car. i don't think he wants to hear your guys' bullshit. correcting and embarassing are two different things, so please, just cut that ****.
like most of these guys said, you'll need an ecu. i just felt i had to reinforce that idea after i made my stupid comment

Yea you can do that, but it will be relatively expensive since your getting straight from the dealership. or if your gutsy you might be able to get one on ebay for cheaper., but they could be in any condition, so better off getting one from the honda dealer. then youll be good.

VTEC chips dont exist. VTEC is just a valvetrain function to make top end power. It does not have anything to do with starting or running in normal operation.
Is the car even an EX model? Those were the only ones of that vintage that came in the U.S. with VTEC. It looks to be an EX.
If you still have the silver box in the passenger side footwell, they did not steal your ECU (most likely). It is not visible. You have to peel back the carpet from the footwell right by the door jamb.
What is it doing when you turn the key? cranking? no cranking? what noises is it making if any? Do you have gas? lol iduno...it's getting more expensive, so maybe they stole it.
Any more info would be helpful.

This seriously cannot be real...I do not see a thief breaking into a car and taking the time to pull up the carpet, open the ecu, remove a chip and run. No one is that stupid....theyd just take the whole damn ecu (probably snip the wiring too, rather than disconnect the ****).
Take a picture of the area of the car that was burgled (is that even a real word?) Show us the ecu, as you found it.....or this officer who is talking out his ***
(vtec chips.....wtf)

The carpet was already pulled up somewhat by the passenger side and was just kind of tucked down. All I know is there was still a silver rectangluar box still there. My car is still at the grocery store for now....so...
I'll be going to the Honda Dealership with my dad this evening to see what I can do.

Find out what car your ecu needs and buy one on ebay or craigslist. The honda dealer will ask you for your first born for an ecu.
