help about a CEL after changing exhaust manifold on y7 to y8
i changed my exhaust manifold to a y8.. i had a muffler shop drill the sensor holes for it to fit in. my catalytic converter was stuck on my y7 exhaust manifold so when i switched to the y8 exhaust manifold i knew there wasnt any cat on it so right now im catless.. if i install a catalytic converter would the CEL go away? or is there a lil more minor work to it so itll clear up?
i tried the search but couldnt find an accurate answer ;/.. any help appreciated

ok if an o2 sensor is Not broken it only works at 400+ most only start to work at 600+.
now if you used an o2 sensor form the old mani. then it is sensative to getting hit and or jared hard. so pull the cel and see if it's the o2 sensor cel or if some thing else got fried or un hooked.
also if the guy at the shop welded any thing while on the car i hope he didn't hook the ground clamp from the welder to the motor and then weld on the pipe. had that happen to me and he fried 4 sensors on my car.

What code is being thrown? That'd help in troubleshooting. But I'd have to say that if you don't have a catalytic converter, that's more than likely your problem (as long as you're still using an OBD2 ECU).

here's what's happening, you have a primary and secondary o2. the primary is reading what's going on in the engine and is important for air/fuel ratio amoung other things. it's getting the "un-catalized exhaust" (yeah i made that word up but you get the idea).
the secondary is comparing its reading to the primary so it can judge the efficiency of the cat. it wants to know if the cat is working and cleaning the exhaust like it should.
in your case the secondary is getting the same signal as the primary and that tells it that the cat is doing nothing.
the simple solution is to leave the secondary connected but pull it out of the exhaust and tie-strap it out of the way somewhere. then get a plug for the bung in the exhaust. this will give the secondary clean air to sense, thus tricking it into thinking that your "cat" is working perfectly.
i did the same y7->y8 swap that you discribed and this is how mine has run for nearly a year. the real fix though is to just get a cat installed after the primary and before the secondary. this way you won't be dumping all sorts of dangerous pollutants out of your tail pipe.
